Archerfield Walled Garden is a beautiful garden destination set within the Archerfield Estate, offering a relaxing space to explore, eat and unwind. With its mix of historic gardens, woodland trails and family-friendly areas, it provides something for visitors of all ages. Visitors can explore the 18th-century walled garden with meadows, rose gardens and kitchen gardens, enjoy the magical Fairy Trail through woodland, and relax in the extensive grounds with walking and cycling paths. The attraction also features an enclosed play park for children, a well-stocked garden shop, a seasonal Garden Café, and scenic areas like the Willow Walk, Beech Walk and pondside spaces. Additional highlights include planned developments like Eldbotle Wood, a woodland adventure play trail, and plenty of open areas for picnics and outdoor relaxation. 

Entry to the gardens is completely free for all visitors.

  • A Spacious Garden Shop: Our all new Garden Shop houses an array plants, pots, tools, garden ornaments, accessories and so much more. We sell only peat free compost as well as a range of sprays and fertilisers which are organic and vegan friendly. We are proud to stock Niwaki garden tools which are known for their fine quality. Find garden furniture and lots of outdoor living accessories. As well as garden items, we stock a wide range of gifts, cards and wrap as well as a selection of toys and games for children.
  • A Magical Fairy Trail: Step into old Archerfield Wood and begin an enchanted hunt for fairies. Willow structures, sculptures and a swing can be found along the trail too. There’s no need to book and it’s free of charge. While away an hour as you amble around the woods and back via our Willow Walk and pond.
  • An Inviting Garden Café: Find family friendly food with an emphasis on seasonality. We use as many ingredients as we can from our own garden, therefore reducing our food miles and giving you the freshest produce possible.  Whether you are after a healthy breakfast, hearty lunch or simply a coffee and a slice of cake, our Garden Café offers it all. We don’t take bookings and tables are offered on a first come first served basis. 
  • An 18th Century Walled Garden: Once used to grow produce for Archerfield House, today’s garden encompasses a perennial meadow, wildlife area, propagation tunnel, rose garden, potager (kitchen garden), perennial vegetables and cut flowers beds.
  • An Enclosed Play Park: A safe enclosed space for children to play featuring wooden climbing frame, play house and wooden train, with seating for adults to enjoy a coffee or bite to eat. Tables in our Play Park are now reserved for customers purchasing food and drink from the Garden Café.
  • Extensive Grounds: Our grounds are vast. We have a beautiful grassy area close to the main pond where you can sit and enjoy take out food and drink. You’ll find a giant monkey puzzle tree just off the path. Between ourselves and the majestic Archerfield House, is the beautiful Beech Walk and beyond the pond is the Willow Walk - a gravel path which takes you to the Fairy Trail and has a number of carefully crafted willow structures along the way. Our network of paths and trails are perfect to explore on foot or by bike. 
  • Eldbotle Wood: We are very excited about our proposals to bring an all-new elements-themed, woodland adventure play trail and learning area, entitled ‘Eldbotle Wood’ to Archerfield Walled Garden - a project we’ve we been working on behind the scenes since 2018 which will bring a number of economic benefits and see our local team increase from 65 to 85.

  • Parking: We have plenty of parking available and 4 rapid EV chargers which can be accessed 24/7.
  • Food & Drinks: We serve breakfast, lunch and a selection of teas, coffees and cakes in our Garden Café. We use as much produce grown in our gardens as possible, changing the menu with the seasons.

  • By Car: We’re just 40 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh by car, located on the A198 between Gullane and Dirleton. After leaving Gullane you will see a sign to let you know we are  ‘next left’. Please note our entrance is a fairly sharp turn off the main road. We have plenty of parking available and 4 rapid EV chargers which can be accessed 24/7.
  • On Foot / By Bike: It’s easy to reach us on foot or by bike from Gullane, Dirleton or North Berwick and there are paths most of the way. We’re approximately one hour from North Berwick, half an hour from Gullane and twenty minutes from Dirleton, if walking and considerably faster by bike.
  • By Bus: East Coast Buses services 124 / X24 stop on the A198 at the entrance to Archerfield Estate. From the top of the road it’s just a ten minute walk to reach us.
  • By Train: It’s just 25 minutes from Edinburgh to our nearest station - Drem - however, if you don’t have transport waiting for you we advise getting off the train at North Berwick instead and jumping onto an East Coast Buses 124 / X24 service going towards Edinburgh.
