Bourton Model Railway is a unique miniature attraction located at The Old New Inn, Bourton-on-the-Water. It is the only Model Village in the UK that represents its own home in 1/9th scale and is recognised as a Grade II Listed attraction. The village beautifully recreates Bourton-on-the-Water as it looked in the 1930s, offering a charming and nostalgic experience.

Visitors can explore detailed miniature landmarks including The Painted House, Victoria Hall, The War Memorial (completed in 1936), St Lawrence’s Church, The Manor House (fully restored in 2018), Station Road, and The Old New Inn. The attraction also features a Miniature Landscape Exhibition (1/32 scale) by John Constable and an Exhibition of Miniatures, showcasing handcrafted miniature scenes. Facilities include a newly refurbished restaurant serving hot and cold food and drinks, 10% off meals in the Tap Room with entry, and toilets with baby changing facilities.

Admission prices are £4.75 for Adults, £4.25 for Seniors (Over 60), £3.75 for Children (3–13 years), and FREE for 0–3 years. There is a separate £1 fee for the Exhibition of Miniatures.

Features

  • The Painted House: Has served as accommodation for The Old New Inn, an exhibition venue, a restaurant, and now a landmark house on the banks of the river Windrush.
  • Victoria Hall: In the early 1900’s this was where gentlemen of the village used to read their newspapers which were provided for their ‘undisturbed reading’.
  • The War Memorial: Situated at the heart of the village, this was one of the first parts of the Model Village to be completed in 1936.
  • St Lawrence’s Church: Historically a place of worship (situated slightly out of position in the Model Village) with its noticeable domed tower.
  • The Manor House: 17th century Manor House (referred to as The ‘New’ Manor) is a Grade II listed property, one of 114 in the village. This has been fully restored by our team in 2018.
  • Station Road: A railway station was situated on Station Road until its closure in 1962. It used to serve on the line between Cheltenham and Moreton-in-Marsh.
  • The Old New Inn: Originally built on the edge of the moors in 1712, and named The New Inn. In 1936 the then landlord built the Model Village in his pub garden to attract tourists.
  • Miniature Landscape Exhibition: 1/32 scale exhibition of model houses by the renowned miniaturist, John Constable. John has dedicated his life to recreating accurate models of buildings as well as inspiring many others with his take on miniature horticulture.
  • Exhibition of Miniatures: We have hosted this exhibition since the site on Bourton High Street closed down. Many craftsmen spent many hundreds of hours recreating scenes in miniature and it’s well worth a visit.

Facilities

  • Food & Drinks: We have our newly refurbished restaurant, serving hot and cold food throughout the day with a wide selection of drinks available. Entry to The Model Village qualifies for 10% off meals in the Tap Room.
