Boydells Dairy Farm is a small working farm in the beautiful North Essex countryside, only an hour’s drive from central London, specialises in sheep milking and offers an educational and fun-filled day out for children and adults. Visitors can take a guided tour featuring interactive experiences such as cow milking, feeding hens, and even trying to outstare a llama, with the highlight being sheep milking in a modern “rapid exit” parlour milking batches of 18 ewes at a time. The farm produces high-quality sheep milk, creating a range of products including the prize-winning cheese “Plumley,” flavoured yogurt, and the popular “Yoggipops” sheep yogurt ice lollies. Sheep milk also supplies other cheesemakers, contributing to British sheep cheeses such as “Lord of the Hundreds.”
Daily farm activities include feeding, milking, and bottle-feeding young animals, with bags of feed available to purchase. Younger visitors can enjoy tractor and trailer rides around the fields (small extra charge) and a pedal tractor track (free of charge).
