Description

Welcome to Brighouse Bay Trekking Centre, established since the 1970s and located next to the five-star Brighouse Bay Holiday Park. Offering trekking, hacking, lessons, and tuition on trustworthy native ponies, mostly Highlands and Fells, the centre is approved by the Trekking and Riding Society in Scotland (TRSS) and annually inspected to meet high standards. Starter Treks (30 mins) and Walking Treks (45 mins) provide safe introduction. Fast Hacks (45 mins) and Beach Hacks (1 hour) are available for experienced riders aged 10+ and 12+ respectively, offering walks, trots, and canters, with rides assessed beforehand for safety. Weenie Rides allow riders from age 5 to build confidence in a 10–15 minute led session, available year-round. Lessons in the 60m x 20m sand arena run for 30 or 45 minutes.

Rides and treks cost: Starter Trek £15, Walking Trek £20, Fast Hack £25, Beach Hack £30. Stable management sessions: Group £9–£11.50, Private £15–£18.

STARTER TREKS: Last for 30 minutes and are a safe introduction to those who wish to try horse riding. Out around the fields for a quiet walk after being shown the basics for control. Minimum age 8 years but under 8's can be taken if the pony is led round by a parent or guardian. Available Easter to October.
WALKING TREKS: Last for 45 minutes and are a safe walk for beginners on our trusty native ponies. Minimum age 8 years old but under 8's can be taken if the pony is led round by a parent or guardian. Available Easter to October.
FAST HACKS*: are also for experienced riders. They last for approximately 45 minutes and offer a safe and quiet walk, trot and canter. Minimum age is 10 years old. Available May to September.
BEACH HACKS*: are for the most experienced riders. They last for one hour and riders must be well balanced in walk, trot and canter. These rides are subject to the tide being out as they involve a fast canter on the beach. Minimum age 12 years. Available May to September.
(* All riders who book for Hacks are assessed in our outdoor arena prior to being taken on the ride. This is to ensure they are happy with the pony they have been allocated and also to ensure our staff are confident their riding ability meets the standard required for the chosen ride.)
WEENIE RIDES: are for any age from 5yeras upwards. A chance for new riders to build their confidence whilst being led by a member of our team for a 10-15 minute walk and introduction to riding. Available all year.
LESSONS: in 60m x 20m sand arena. 30 minute or 45 minute sessions - private or group. Minimum age is 7 years old. Available all year.
"OWN-A-PONY" SESSION: A chance for children and/or adults to get together and learn about stable management and riding in preparation for owning their own horse or pony.
SATURDAY CLUBS: Same as "Own a pony" sessions only for regular customers who wish to progress and work towards TRSS Level Awards. Three clubs are available:Level 1 (Beginners learning to walk, halt and steer), Level 2 (minimum ability walk and trot) or Level 3 (minimum ability walk, trot and canter). Minimum age is 7 years old. Clubs available all year (although riding is not guaranteed every session). Also offer an Adult Only Club on a Sunday.
