The Collection

  • Burgh House is an Arts Council England Accredited museum containing a fascinating collection of objects relating to the history of the House, Hampstead and its wider environs, and extraordinary and ordinary residents. The collection contains artworks, objects, documents, textiles, furniture, photographs, and books.
  • Many items from the collection are on display around the House. Displays are periodically rotated to refresh the exhibitions and illustrate new interpretive themes, ensuring wide enjoyment of the collection materials.
  • The Burgh House collection was begun by Christopher and Diana Wade when Burgh House was saved by local residents for community use in 1979. Since then, the collection has grown substantially, often through generous donations from the public, local institutions and charitable trusts, and artists. Acquisitions are decided by committee in line with Burgh House’s collection development policy as an Accredited Museum.
  • You can browse our collection by object, artist, or theme. Collection cataloguing and photography is ongoing, so please visit regularly to find new and interesting objects online.
