Situated in Cowes and East Cowes on the Isle of Wight, the Classic Boat Museum has been telling visitors its wonderful maritime story since 1996. The Museum is across 2 sites and consists of the Boat Shed and the Gallery.
The Boat Shed in Cowes (West) has an impressive collection of nearly 90 boats, from classic yachts, motorboats, and lifeboats to Sir Ben Ainslie's 2017 Americas Cup test boat BAR T1. The Gallery in East Cowes has an extensive collection of maritime artefacts, boat models and photographs.

The Gallery
The first room showcases the Isle of Wight as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and situates the museum at the heart of British maritime history from the 16th Century onwards, including a large spectacular reproduction of the Cowdray engraving of the sinking of the Mary Rose in 1545.
The Boat Shed
The Boat Shed has an impressive collection of nearly 90 vessels which tell the fascinating story of the maritime history of the Isle of Wight and Solent waters. It features dinghies, classic yachts, power boats, and lifeboats, including the Jessie Lumb and Queen Victoria. These can be viewed at close range – you can even touch them or go on board the Jessie Lumb. Also on show is Sir Ben Ainslie’s 2017 America’s Cup test boat BAR-T1.

Exhibitions
Especially for the young and young at heart, a virtual sailing experience, which has been part-funded with a grant of £9,900 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

They welcome schools from all over the world and a school trip to the museum is the perfect supplement to the national curriculum and an enriching day out for your class. Learning materials for Key Stage 2 and 3 have been developed in collaboration with the Isle of Wight Educational Services under the “Museums and Schools” programme, funded by the Arts Council.
Historians
They welcome historians and researchers to use our facilities. We have a library containing thousands of specialised books and thousands of journals and periodicals. We have experts in yachting and power-craft who can assist you in your enquiries.
