  • Animals: Meet the animals of Cogges at weekend and Bank Holiday ‘Meet the Animals’ sessions. The Manor House and historic farm buildings, including the first floor, are open to visitors, offering stories of the past and a glimpse of Yew Tree Farm from Downton Abbey. Animals illustrate Cogges’ farming history, from wool trade to small-scale contemporary farming, helping tell the story of the site over centuries.
    • Goats: Anglo-Saxon and African Nubian goats, named after Downton Abbey characters, greet visitors near the entrance. Pygmy goats Jonathon, Timmy, and Lewis can also be seen depending on the weather.
    • Sheep: Sheep graze in pasture during open season. Visitors can see shearing demonstrations and learn about Witney’s wool trade history on the Witney Wool heritage trail.
    • Shetland Ponies – Toffee and Treacle: Mother-and-son Shetland ponies Toffee and Treacle arrived in 2013. Treacle has health challenges, and fundraising is ongoing for a safe outdoor paddock. Donations: link.
    • Heritage Ducks, Chickens and Turkeys: Heritage ducks, chickens, and resident turkeys roam freely in the farmyard and dairy lawn. Eggs are available in the café, subject to availability.

  • From the A40, head for the Cogges car park and follow the brown Cogges signs (with a cart symbol) to Cogges Hill Road. Do not drive down Church Lane as there is no parking and no through road. There is a short walk from the car park - either follow the path over the wooden bridge and across the field or follow the footpath to the entrance via Church Lane.
  • Bus: There are good bus services to Witney from all directions - Oxford, Eynsham, Chipping Norton, Cheltenham, Burford and Abingdon. S1, S2/H2 & S7 bus routes from Oxford and Cheltenham stop at top of Church Lane, a short 3 - 5 minute walk to the entrance. From other Cotswold towns, take a bus to Market Square in the centre of Witney and it's just a-10 minute walk. Visit www.stagecoachbus.com for more information and timetables.
  • Train: Closest railway station is Hanborough. You’ll need to then catch the 233 bus to the centre of Witney and walk, or get a taxi direct. Charlbury and Shipton-Under-Wychwood are also taxi or bus rides away.
  • Bike or on foot: Leave your car at home, it's good for the environment and good for your health. Cogges is no more than a 10-minute walk from Witney town centre (off Witan Way/Farm Mill or Avenue Two/Station Lane), down a footpath/cycle track with lovely nature views of the River Windrush, lake and meadows.
