Cogglesford Watermill is a historic 18th Century Watermill located on the River Slea in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. Millers have produced flour on this site for over 1,000 years, and it remains the only Sheriff's watermill still in operation in England. Today, it offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore a working watermill with deep historical roots.
Visitors can see the low breast shot water wheel and two sets of millstones, and on special event days watch the mill producing stoneground flour as it did 200 years ago. The mill also offers a Milling Day Experience, where guests can become an ‘Apprentice for an Afternoon’ and operate the machinery themselves under expert guidance. A gift shop sells locally sourced Lincolnshire food produce, handmade crafts, and freshly ground flour, with light refreshments available by the riverside.
The Cogglesford Mill Milling Day Experience costs £136 for a Group of 4 (£33.95 per person), £131 for a Group of 3 (£43.63 per person), £126 for a Group of 2 (£62.99 per person), and £121 for a 121 Milling Session.
With its working machinery, educational experiences, and picturesque riverside setting, Cogglesford Watermill offers a memorable and hands-on glimpse into England’s milling heritage. Whether visiting on a milling day or taking part in the Apprentice for an Afternoon experience, it is a fascinating destination for history lovers and families alike.
Food & Drinks: You can also enjoy the riverside setting with a cold drink or ice cream during the summer months, or a hot drink and a cake inside during the chilly winter!
