Features

  • Embark on our self-guided walking tours in Leeds, designed to lead you through the city's rich history and stunning architecture. These heritage walks offer a unique treasure hunt experience, perfect for families and friends seeking to uncover Leeds' hidden gems.
  • Whether you're interested in historic landmarks or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll, our tours provide an engaging way to explore Leeds' city centre. Leeds is a West Yorkshire city buzzing with life.
  • In 1888, the French inventor Louis Le Prince shot the first ever moving picture there, but two years later he mysteriously vanished without trace. On Christmas Day 1891, Owen “Owney” Madden was born, going on to become one of New York City’s most feared and prosperous gangsters.
  • Natives of Leeds are known as Loiners. The record for the most people dressed as Sherlock Holmes (443) was made in 2014, and the city was once inhabited by a great northern hippopotamus.
  • An exploration of Leeds's city centre with two self-guided heritage walks with an optional treasure hunt. Completing the treasure hunt keeps everyone actively engaged, and urges you to look up, down and every which-way - so you won't miss out on any of the city's treasures.
  • The two walks have been designed so that the second one follows on from where the first one ends. Do both, or have a breather and do the second one another day! They both start and finish in the heart of the city - so buses, trains and car parks are easily available to get you there and back.

What to see

  1. Art Gallery to River Aire - 1.5 miles / 2.4 kms: The start of the walk is a showcase to Leeds’ diverse culture, from its majestic Art Gallery, through Mandela Gardens to the imposing Civic Hall. Next we pass the City Museum before heading down the elegant Victorian Arcades. Then it’s on to the hustle and bustle of the Kirkgate Market and Corn Exchange before passing by the former mills of the Calls, which played such a significant part in Leeds’ prosperity, before ending your walk at Leeds' waterfront.
  2. River Aire to City Square - 1 mile / 1.6 kms: This is a walk of many contrasts - starting with a peaceful stroll by the River Aire, then taking a trip through the founding streets of historic Leeds. Next it’s on to a little known, tastefully constructed square, before exploring an ancient chapel, appreciating the city’s renowned railway system, and finishing at the bustling City Square with its imposing buildings, delightful statues, and cosy restaurants.
