EcoVentures offers an unforgettable wildlife watching adventure in the heart of the Moray Firth, operating from the historic town of Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands. The company is best known for its close encounters with the resident colony of Bottlenose Dolphins, one of the area’s most famous wildlife attractions. Running since 2004, EcoVentures is owned and operated by an experienced local skipper and a passionate small team dedicated to responsible wildlife tourism.

The main 2-hour Wildlife Watch Trip explores dramatic cliff coastlines, seabird colonies, historic war fortifications, and open waters where dolphins are often spotted. Trips take place aboard a custom-built 9.5 metre RIB named Saorsa, specially designed for safe and exciting wildlife watching. Visitors may also encounter seals, Harbour Porpoises, and occasionally species such as Pilot Whales or Basking Sharks, while learning about local history and marine conservation. Private skippered charters are available for birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, and other special occasions.

The Wildlife Watch Trip costs £47 for adults (13+) and £39 for children aged 5–12. Trips last approximately 2 hours, and parking is available free of charge in Cromarty.

Every trip is different, as all wildlife sightings occur naturally without feeding or interference. Wildlife Watch: This is an exhilarating 2 hour trip which showcases the best of what the Moray Firth has to offer – scenery, history and, if you are lucky, the resident colony of Bottlenose Dolphins. We will explain some of the history of the area as we take in the spectacular cliff coastline, pausing to allow you to appreciate the bird colonies and imposing war fortifications, before we head on further out to sea.
Skippered Charters: Why not hire the boat out exclusively with friends, family or that special someone? Whatever the occasion we can help design a trip that will let you celebrate in style. Due to the flexibility of our boat and our extensive knowledge of the waters around Cromarty, we have the ability to tailor trips to meet your precise needs. Over the years we have done just about everything you can imagine…. Birthdays, weddings, civil partnerships, golden wedding anniversaries, hen and stag parties, scattering of ashes – we have even had a marriage proposal onboard!
Boat: For all the trips we use our 9.5 metre RIB, Saorsa. She has been designed specifically with wildlife watching in mind and we believe this type of vessel offers a number of advantages, particularly in terms of safety, handling and sheer exhiliration. Indeed for many the boat ride alone is the biggest attraction!
Wildlife: Although Bottlenose Dolphins tend to be the most frequently encountered and well known species in the Moray Firth, we do often encounter other sealife and birdlife while out on our trips. Like the Dolphins some species, such as the shy Harbour Porpoise can be seen in the Firth all year round, others such as the Pilot Whale and Basking Shark are much more occasional visitors. Experience over the years has taught us where and when we are most likely to encounter which species but often, as with any wild animal, it comes down to a little bit of luck.
