What to see

  • Essex Police Museum has a collection of objects, photographs and objects that tell the history of the force from 1840 until present day.
  • You and the kids can find out about how crime is detected, plus stories about some of the criminals. Get your prints taken before trying out the recreation of a police cell, make sure you swear to tell the truth! There is also the chance to dress up, great for pictures.
  • This tiny museum holds so much information about the force that will be interesting for kids and adults alike. You will be amazed at the number of items on display. The staff really make an effort to interact with you and are full of knowledge. (Some of the volunteers are serving policemen!)
  • There is also a documented history of the most famous murders that have taken place in the last 150 years, plus examples of uniforms and equipment that was used by the force in the past.
