Hartcliffe Farm

Hartcliffe City Farm, Lampton Ave, Bristol BS13 0QH, UK
1-90 Years

Description

The farm is free to visit and offers a variety of activities for all ages. A small selection of farm animals, including goats, pigs, chickens, and guinea pigs, are kept for educational, therapeutic, and food production purposes. Currently cared for by staff on therapeutic placements will soon help look after them. The Playful Barn provides a safe indoor space for children to play and houses the Hay Bale Café (check the café’s Facebook page for opening times). Visitors can explore the market gardens, which supply food for the café trailer and local veg boxes, while volunteers can gain gardening skills and learn about food production.

The Flower Farm, run by partner charity Heart of BS13, produces sustainable local blooms and offers vocational training in horticulture and floristry, avoiding the environmental impact of imported cut flowers. Future plans include a new safe playground, renovated spaces for community classes, workshops, and birthday parties, and an expanded range of animals with improved pens.

Features

  • Animals: Have a small selection of farm animals, including goats, pigs, chickens, and guinea pigs. They are kept for educational and therapeutic purposes, as well as for food production. Currently, staff care for them, but soon volunteers on therapeutic placements will help look after them.
  • Playful Barn: Barn provides a safe indoor space for children to play. It is open every day from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Market Gardens: Take a stroll around the market gardens, which produce food for the café trailer and local veg boxes. Volunteers can help grow crops, learn about food production, and develop gardening skills.
  • Flower Farm: Run by partner charity Heart of BS13, the flower farm produces sustainable local blooms while offering vocational training and volunteering opportunities in horticulture and floristry. Unlike cut flowers grown abroad, which often have a high carbon footprint and use intensive farming methods, Hartcliffe’s flower farm grows beautiful bouquets sustainably.
  • Composting Project: Also managed by Heart of BS13, the composting project turns food waste from local households and businesses into nutritious compost. This improves soil quality in the community and reduces climate emissions.
  • What’s on the Way: Have exciting plans for the farm’s future, including:
    • A New Playground – The current playground is unsafe. Installing a new, safe playground is a top priority.
    • Spaces to Hire – Some farm buildings are being renovated to host community classes, workshops, and birthday parties.
    • More Animals – Once we build more safe and comfortable animal pens, we’ll expand our range of animals.
