Hatchlands Park was built in the 1750s for naval hero Admiral Edward Boscawen and his wife Fanny, since then it has housed wealthy families, a finishing school for girls and even a printing press. Today you can visit the parkland or stop for coffee in the Kitchen Café all year round. You can also see inside our house on six afternoons a week, between March and October. 

Take the time to wander through our 400 acres of rolling parkland and woodland, one of the largest country estates in the area and full of year round seasonal colour. You can follow waymarked walks, enjoy the tranquillity of our garden, discover areas of the park partly landscaped by Humphry Repton or bring the family to experience our natural adventure area for children.

  • Exploring the parkland at Hatchlands: Spanning 422 acres and open 363 days a year, the parkland at Hatchlands is a wonderful spot to enjoy the great outdoors. Discover wonderful walks, a natural play area for the kids, and say hello to the resident donkeys, or just stop by and enjoy a breath of fresh air.
  • Visiting the house at Hatchlands Park: Inside the Georgian house at Hatchlands Park you can explore six beautifully restored rooms, richly decorated with a family feel. There’s a chance to see some of Robert Adam’s earliest work, plus a wonderful collection of paintings and a world class collection of musical instruments brought together by our tenant Alec Cobbe.
  • Conservation grazing at Hatchlands: The park walks at Hatchlands run around and through a working farm with sheep and cattle grazing from spring until autumn. This conservation grazing allows grassland species to flower and provides food sources for endangered butterflies.

Facilities

  • Parking: Free, 275 yards from house entrance. Six electric vehicle charging points are now available. See “Facilities” for more information. Drivers will require their own cables to charge.
  • Food & Drinks: Café - The Kitchen Café serves barista-style hot and cold drinks, hot and cold meals, ice creams, children's lunches, pastries and cakes and bakes to eat in or take away. If you bring your own cup, we will give you 25p off as a thank you. We have high chairs and accessible crockery and cutlery.
  • Toilet: The toilets can be found in the cobbled courtyard.
  • Dogs allowed: Assistance dogs only in the house, the formal gardens and the children's natural adventure area. Well-behaved dogs under close control are welcome in designated parkland areas. Please ensure your dog is on a lead around livestock. Dogs on leads are welcome in the both cafés.

This circular walk cuts across the centre of the estate through woodland and open parkland, passing the children's adventure area and providing good views of the house.   • By road: Hatchlands Park is located directly along the A246, Epsom Road, approximately 4.5 miles from Guildford town centre. From A3 southbound: leave the A3 at the junction signposted Ockham, Ripley, Send. Follow the B2215 through Ripley Village. After approximately 1.75 miles, at the roundabout take 1st exit onto A247. After approximately 2 miles, at the traffic signals, turn left onto the A246. You’ll arrive after approximately 1.5 miles. Follow brown signs to the visitor car park on your left. From A3 northbound: leave the A3 at the junction signposted Ripley, Woking, Dorking. After approximately 0.5 miles, at the roundabout take 3rd exit onto A247 and then follow the above.
  • By train: Clandon Station (CLA), Station Road, West Clandon, GU4 7TE is approximately 2.5 miles from Hatchlands Park. It is situated on the London Waterloo to Guildford mainline. There is no taxi rank at this station. Walking from Clandon station will take approximately 45 minutes, partly along a busy main road with some stretches of dual carriageway. Horsley Station (HSY), Station Approach, Horsley, KT24 6QX is approximately 4 miles from Hatchlands Park. It is situated on the London Waterloo to Guildford mainline. There is no taxi rank at this station. Walking from Horsley station will take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes, partly along a busy main road.
  • By bus: Services 463, 478 and 479. • The bus stops for Hatchlands Park are situated 100 metres west of the property entrance on the eastbound carriageway and 500 metres west of the property entrance on the westbound carriageway. • Please note, the A246, on which Hatchlands Park is situated, is a busy A-road. The section of carriageway at the entrance to the park is a single carriageway, widening to dual carriageway 400 metres away. There are no formal crossing points in place and the speed limit is 50mph. Please take care if your journey requires you to cross this section of carriageway.
  • Cycling: The closest National Cycle Routes are routes 22 and 223 both of which run through Guildford town centre, approximately 4.5 miles from Hatchlands. Please note the A246 is a fast A road and may not be suitable for all cyclists. Plan your route to Hatchlands Park using the CycleStreets journey planner via the by bicycle link below (This journey planner uses OpenStreetMap data which is generally excellent by accuracy, but cannot be guaranteed. If you come to a footpath or other cycle-prohibited track, please don’t ride on it).
