  • House: The Rotunda, museum accredited, forms the centrepiece of the Ickworth estate. It showcases an internationally renowned art and silver collection.
  • Garden: The Italianate garden encircles the Rotunda; a mix of classical Italy and a touch of drama with a gothic-style stumpery.
  • Parkland: Miles of parkland with rolling landscape, ancient woodlands, working farmland and an all-weather multi-use trail.
  • Cycle hire: A cycle hire hub is located in the main car park. The multi-use trail is ideal for exploring the estate by bike.
  • Holiday cottages: You'll notice a handful of characterful cottages dotted across the estate. These offer holiday accommodation for four to 12 people.

Allow yourself to be led through an assortment of magical areas, from the winding Albana Woodland, to the gently curving Geraldine's and Erskine's Walks, or the immaculate Italianate garden which encircles the Rotunda.
  • Explore the parkland at Ickworth: Ickworth is encircled in layers of history, landscape, people and classic architecture. Explore the parkland, designed for privacy, space and freedom with personal pathways, hidden glimpses and snatches of inspiring views.
  • Walking at Ickworth Estate: With miles of paths taking you to all corners of the 1,800 acre estate, there are plenty of trails to entice all visitors. Many are fully accessible for both wheelchairs and buggies and offer you the chance to explore the magnificent parkland.
  • Cycling at Ickworth Estate: Located in the car park, the cycle hire hub has a variety of bikes for all ages and abilities, including trailers, balance bikes, electric bikes and a pair of recumbent bikes, so the whole family can enjoy exploring our 1800 acres of parkland. Alternatively, you're welcome to bring your own bikes to explore our multi-use trail.
  • Shopping: The West Wing shop offers gifts, cards and homeware. The plant shop has gardening accessories and plants. The second-hand bookshop is stocked with pre-loved favourites.

Facilities

  • Parking: Welcome kiosk situated on the drive for entry, visitor information and direction to the main car park or overflow car parking as applicable when visiting. Please stop at the kiosk and have any membership cards ready.
  • Food & Drinks: Restaurant and cafe are available.
  • Toilet: By Welcome Point, in the West Wing and down by the Walled Garden (closed in Winter).
  • Dogs allowed: Dogs on leads welcomed in the parkland. Sorry no dogs in the Italianate Garden, House or West Wing. Dog water available across property. Dog cup cakes and ice cream available from Porter's Lodge.

What to see

Top trails: 

  • Ickworth Estate | Albana Walk: Follow this short circular walk through some of the woodlands around Ickworth. If you have the energy when you walk along the Trim Trail try your hand on various fitness objects, ranging from pole climbing to ladder walks and leap frog.
  • Ickworth Estate | Walled Garden and Canal Walk: A circular walk taking you to the Walled Garden, and Canal lake, which is a haven for wildlife. There is a great view of the Walled Garden from the far side of the Canal lake, with St. Mary’s church, and the Rotunda behind. Dogs are allowed into the Walled Garden.
  • Ickworth Estate | Linnet Valley Trail: This route forms the first ½ of the Multi-use track (the 2nd is the Monument Walk). Taking you past Ickworth Lodge and along the River Linnet and up past the Walled Garden and St. Mary’s Church. Buzzard and Kingfishers frequent this area of the park; Roe Deer can be seen at Dawn and Dusk.
  • Ickworth Estate | Monument Trail: This route forms the second ½ of the Multi-use track (The first half is the Linnet Valley trail). Taking you to the Monument at the southern end of the park, passing St Mary’s Church, The Walled garden and returning past the Fairy Lake. One of the highlights is the spectacular view across the Linnet Valley to the Rotunda.
  • Ickworth Estate | History Walk: With its history traced back to Domesday, Ickworth Estate has quite a story to tell. Originally managed as a working estate, its status today as a pleasure ground dates back only as far as the early 18th Century. Walk with us around this beautiful parkland and let your imagination fly with our stories of its development over the centuries under the care, love and sometimes eccentric attentions of the Hervey’s and St. Edmundsbury Abbey.
  • Ickworth Estate | Lady Hervey Walk: A circular parkland walk starting from the Porter’s Lodge before heading down the main drive towards Adkins Wood. Visit the Fairy Lake and Canal Lake then up to St Mary’s Church (Hervey’s family church) before finishing at the West Wing.

  • By road: from A14 take junction 42 towards Westley; on west side of A143. For all other routes head towards Horringer.
  • On foot: 4½ miles via footpaths from Bury St Edmunds, please use the main entrance through Horringer village.
  • By train: Bury St Edmunds 3 miles Plan your car-free visit at Good Journey.
  • By bus: Ickworth is on the road between Bury St Edmunds and Clare/ Haverhill. There are regular bus services from Bury St Edmunds town centre including the Number 14 and 15 bus. The bus stop is in the village of Horringer and it's about a 15 minute walk from the bus stop to Ickworth's visitor centre. 
  • Cycling: 4½ miles via the road and cycle paths from Bury St Edmunds, please use the main entrance through Horringer village for access to Ickworth. We have a multi-use cycle trail as part of the estate offer.
