Kelburn Castle is a large house near Fairlie, North Ayrshire, Scotland. It is the seat of the Earl of Glasgow. Originally built in the thirteenth century it was remodelled in the sixteenth century.

  • Castle: The 10th Earl opened the Country Centre in 1977 and converted the buildings which previously formed the ‘Home Farm’ which was fully operational up until the First World War.
  • Play Area: Find the entrance and immerse yourself in the Secret Forest. Follow the winding pathways and discover the giant’s castle, the crocodile swamp, and the tall heights of the Chinese Pagoda.

This one-of-a-kind attraction showcases a mesmerising fusion of nature and artistic brilliance, featuring works contributed by talented artists from around the globe. 
  • Animals: Amelia and Grumman, Chickens, Ducks, Alpacas (not Llamas!), Soay Sheep, Yoko and more.
  • Wildlife: Kelburn is home to an abundance of amazing wildlife, ranging from tiny wrens singing in the ferns to deer quietly nibbling grass in the fields!
  • Museum: The museum building was erected in 1898 to house a collection of New Zealand artefacts, brought back to Kelburn by the 7th Earl of Glasgow – David Boyle. In 1892, after a naval career, he became Governor of New Zealand. Among the interesting objects he brought back are Māori spears, Kauri gum, and some wild birds, including albatross and penguins.
  • Glen & Gardens: The Grounds have much to offer and why not look for some of our special features while you enjoy a walk in the great outdoors. Kelburn is famous for its many unusual trees and the 1000 Year Old Yews and the Weeping Larch have been recognised by the Forestry Commission as two of the 100 most important ‘heritage’ trees in Scotland.
  • Trails & Walk: Kelburn is a natural attraction and hosts a wonderful coastal woodland. The castle is situated on the side of a beautiful glen and has a great outlook over the Clyde estuary and islands.

  • By Road: Sat Nav – KA29 0BE (approx 40 min from Glasgow). From Glasgow/the north follow the M8 to Glasgow Airport, joining A737 to Irvine. At the Roadhead Roundabout take the third exit onto the A760. Drive through Lochwinnoch and Kilbirnie until you reach Largs, then turn left onto the A78 Irvine Road. Drive two miles until you reach Kelburn on the left.
  • By Rail: Largs Station 2 miles away.
  • By Bus: A78 main bus route Greenock to Ayr. (Bus stop adjacent to Kelburn’s main entrance.)
