Kynren is an award-winning outdoor theatre spectacular that tells an epic tale of England. This 90-minute live action show takes audiences on a journey through 2,000 years of British history. Set at sunset and ending in starlight, it offers an unforgettable evening with no interval.

Watch as Vikings storm ashore, Roman chariots race, jousting knights clash, and legends come to life on a panoramic stage. The 8,000-seater Tribune offers unrestricted views, with VIP, Deluxe, Superior and Standard seating options. Visitors can also explore the Viking Village pre-show experience and enjoy breathtaking stunts, special effects, and a cast and crew of a thousand performers.

Standard Tickets start at £30 for adults and £20 for children (4–17), while children aged 3 years and seating is available in four different categories with different prices. 

With immersive storytelling, large-scale live performances and stunning visuals, Kynren delivers a powerful historical experience.   • On your visit travel back in time and visit the Viking Village! You'll be able to talk and interact with the villagers as they go about their daily lives, visit the cookhouse, see them tend to the animals, prepare meals and watch the blacksmith at work in his forge producing real chainmail!
  • Just be careful as the Viking warriors are preparing for a raid! Part of the pre-show entertainment at Kynren last season.

  • Parking: Ample parking is available with shuttle bus service to and from the car parks. There is a fee for car parking and you must pre-book a space to ensure availability and a hassle-free experience.
  • Food & Drinks: Explore a range of food and drink options to enhance your Kynren experience. Whether you’re looking for a quick snack, a refreshing drink or something heartier – our outlets have you covered. 
  • Toilets: There are plenty of award-winning toilet facilities around the site to keep queues to a minimum. Baby changing facilities are also available in some washrooms. Disabled toilets are located at the Welcome Plaza, immediately adjacent to the Car Park Blue, and directly behind the Tribune. 

What to see

The Tribune is our impressive seating area for Kynren, and Pyromusical, with a capacity to accommodate up to 8,000 spectators. Designed to offer an unforgettable viewing experience, the Tribune features 41 rows of standard raked seats, with shallow steps leading to the different sections.  All seats provide unobstructed views of the panoramic stage, ensuring every visitor has a spectacular experience. Much like a cinema, the location of your seat offers a unique perspective on the show, but rest assured, the magic of the performance remains the same for all. 

We offer two types of seats: 

  • VIP Seats: Padded seats with backrests and wider dimensions for greater comfort, located in the very center of the Tribune. 
  • Deluxe, Superior and Standard Seats: Plastic, raked stadium-style seating with a backrest, offering excellent views from every angle.

  • By Car: From the North: Take the A688 from Durham Services (J61) on the A1(M) towards Bishop Auckland / From the South: From the A1 (M) take the A68 (J58) to Bishop Auckland. To park at Kynren, you must purchase a parking pass in advance. Cars: £12.00 / Motorhomes: £15.00 (Parking available only via the Box Office). Please note that overnight parking for motorhomes is not available.
  • By Train: Major Stations - Durham or Darlington (12 miles / 25 minutes by car). Local Station - Bishop Auckland Station (1 mile / 15-minute walk to the site OR a 5-minute walk to Bishop Auckland Market Place for a pre-booked shuttle to the site).
