London Transport Museum is the world’s leading museum of urban transport and an award-winning day out.

The museum explore the powerful link between transport and the growth of London, its culture and society since 1800. By sharing this story of innovation, ingenuity, creativity and design, we ignite curiosity about the world around us and how to shape its future.  

The collection is Designated Outstanding by Arts Council England. It includes more than 500,000 objects, from locomotives which powered the world’s first underground railway, to one of the most important collections of 20th century poster art.

Cloakroom
We have a free cloakroom where you can leave coats and bags. 

Baby changing facilities
Baby changing facilities are available in both male and female toilets.

Breastfeeding is welcomed. If you would like some privacy you can use our baby feeding room on the ground floor.

Pushchairs and buggies
The Museum is fully accessible with a buggy. Or you can leave your buggy in our buggy park, which is located just inside the Museum entrance opposite the cloakroom.

Eating at the Museum
Picnics are welcome during school holidays and at weekends and can be eaten in our Lower Deck cafe bar on the ground floor. Canteen is our contemporary new cafe bar and can be found above the shop. Canteen offers an all-day menu, serving food and drinks from breakfast to pre-theatre meals, and includes a special children's menu including train shaped pasta!
 

What to see

Children will especially enjoy the All Aboard family play zone which boasts a ton of different miniature vehicles children can climb into.

Other popular items in the London Transport Museum include:

  1. A horse-drawn omnibus (circa 1805)
  2. The original tube map (which was designed by Harry Beck).
  3. A wooden Metropolitan Railway “Bogie Stock” coach (which was converted to electricity in 1901)
  4. A sedan chair (which was London’s first licensed public transport)
  5. The first underground steam-powered engine
  6. Historic London transport posters designed by the likes of Graham Sutherland, Abram Games and Ivon Hitchens.
