Magna Science Adventure Centre is a huge interactive attraction set inside a former steelworks in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. It’s a place where science and history meet through exciting exhibits and activities for children and adults alike. The centre is all about discovery, fun, and learning through hands-on play.

Families can explore four exciting zones—Fire, Earth, Water, and Air—each filled with interactive games and experiments. Kids can enjoy SCI-TEK, a massive outdoor play area, and Aqua-Tek, a splash park full of water fun. The dramatic Big Melt show brings the history of steel production to life with lights and effects.

Ticket prices are £19.95 for adults, £17.95 for children aged 4–15, and £8.50 for children aged 2–3. Children under 2 go free.

The centre offers a full day of fun and learning in a unique industrial setting. It’s perfect for curious minds and energetic explorers.

  • Fire Pavilion: Beyond mere warmth and marshmallow roasts, fire has been our cultural compass, industrial ignition, and culinary whizz. From sparking innovation to ensuring survival, fire’s the unsung hero fuelling our journey through time. Get to grips with this huge force of nature in the Fire Pavilion. The hands-on exhibits are suitable for children of all ages, a visit to Fire will spark your imagination!
  • Earth Pavilion: Earth’s soil and rock are vital for life and progress. Soil nurtures crops and ecosystems, while rocks fuel construction, driving innovation and civilisation forward. Below ground, the Earth Pavilion is an immersive experience filled with hands-on games, some real-life JCBs, rock sorters, and a quarry face to explode. The hands-on exhibits are suitable for children of all ages, a visit to Earth will plant seeds of knowledge!
  • Water Pavilion: Water – it’s a molecular superhero, changing forms from fluffy clouds to icy flakes and refreshing liquid. We drink it, wash in it, swim in it and life on Earth depends on it. Housed in a giant steel wave, a huge, steel water wheel seems to power the Water Pavilion. The hands-on exhibits are suitable for children of all ages, a visit to Water will provide a fountain of knowledge – it just keeps flowing!
  • The Big Melt: Step back into the world of the steel mills with the spectacular Big Melt Show. ‘E’ furnace, one of the original electric arc furnaces, is brought to life with light, sound and special effects. Don’t miss this story of the mighty ‘Steelos’ and its workers.
  • SCI-TEK: Big fun, Magna-style. Designed to let children learn through play, SCI-TEK is an outdoor adventure! Spinning bowls, tilted roundabouts, twisted slides, rockets and castles… all you need to spark the imagination and get active!
  • AQUA-TEK: Think summertime, think AQUA-TEK! The splash park adventure is suitable for children of all ages. Create a splash with water cannons, spray arches, and geysers; be warned – you are going to get wet, wet, wet. Aqua-Tek is open weekends and holidays until the end of summer.

  • By Bus: The X3 service drops visitors right outside Magna, up to every 20 mins.   Travelling from Sheffield City Centre, you can catch the X3 Steel Link from bus stops on Eyre Street, Castle Street and Arundel Gate.  From areas around Sheffield, travel on your local bus to the city centre and then jump on the X3 at the most convenient stop.  
  • By Car: If you are travelling using a sat nav then the postcode S60 1FD will bring you on to Magna Way, after which Magna is the big, black building straight ahead. From the M1 take Junction 33 if you are travelling from the south and Junction 34 if you are travelling from the north. Magna is about one mile from Meadowhall Shopping Centre. 
  • By Train: The most convenient train stations to use are Rotherham Central, Sheffield and Meadowhall. From either of these stations you are advised to take the no.X3 bus service direct to Magna. From Sheffield station walk to the Interchange (about 4 mins) to catch the bus. From Rotherham Central, turn right out of the station into the bus station and take the X3 bus (stop B4).
