Description

Welcome to Peak Cavern, also known as "The Devil's Arse," where history and nature converge in one awe-inspiring location. Deep within the gorge below Peveril Castle, you'll find the largest natural cave entrance in the British Isles, measuring 100m long, 20m high, and 35m wide. This cavern holds the remnants of a rope makers' village, which operated from 1642 to 1880, producing ropes for the lead mining industry in Castleton. The rope-making industry ceased with the onset of World War I, but the fascinating history of this underground world remains for you to explore.
