Peckover House is a secret gem, an oasis hidden away in an urban environment. A classic Georgian merchant's town house, it was lived in by the Peckover family for 150 years. The Peckovers were staunch Quakers, which meant they had a very simple lifestyle - yet at the same time they ran a successful private bank. 

Both facets of their life can be seen as you explore the house and as you wander the gardens. The gardens themselves are outstanding - 0.8 hectares (2 acres) of sensory delight, complete with orangery, summer-houses, croquet lawn and rose garden with a varitety of species of rose.

Price starts from £10.00 for Adults(18 years and over), £5.00 for Children(5-17 & under 5s free) and £25.00 for Family(2 Adults and up to 3 children).   • House: A classic Georgian merchant's townhouse, built in 1722. Home to the Peckover family for 150 years.
  • The Banking Hall: Although the Banking Hall was partially demolished in the 1870s, some remains above ground so you can appreciate its former scale and layout. The surviving sections now contain an exhibition space relating to the history of the Peckovers banking business.
  • Gardens: A stunning Victorian-style walled garden, known for its varieties of roses and a beautiful orangery housing ancient orange trees. Entry to the garden is free throughout the opening season.
  • Second-hand bookshop and plant sales: Bookshop stocked full of pre-loved books. Plants grown at Peckover for sale.
  • Damsons: Every Tuesday and Wednesday, the Damsons Dementia Group meet in the Reed Barn at Peckover. Sessions run from 10am to 12pm and from 1pm to 3pm.
  • Holiday Cottages: Stay in the stylish Georgian Wainman House, or in one of two cosy converted coach houses. You'll also have a key to the door that leads from the courtyard into Peckover's garden so you can explore the stunning grounds when the other visitors have left for the day.
  • Christmas at Peckover House & Gardens: Peckover House is open for two special festive weekends in December, when visitors will be able to see the downstairs of the house decorated for Christmas and enjoy a series of festive performances from local choirs and theatre groups. The Reed Barn Tearoom will also be open, serving a selection of festive treats and hot drinks.
  • Peckover House: Uncover the rich history behind Peckover House and the tales within each room, with our team of volunteer guides on hand to personally talk you through them. This quintessential example of a Georgian home was lived in by the Peckover family for 150 years, and has many stories to tell.
  • The gardens at Peckover: For over 150 years the Peckover family's love of diverse plants compelled them to nurture the outside space as a showpiece for a wide range of horticultural styles.

Facilities

  • Parking: Free in town, nearest is Chapel Road (not National Trust), 270 yards. From the car park, follow the brown or black tourist signs to Peckover House.
  • Food & Drinks: Coffee shop Located in the atmospheric 17th-century thatched Reed Barn, our tea-room serves hot and cold drinks alongside cakes and light bites and is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 10:30am to 4pm and Mondays 12pm until 4pm with last orders at 3:45pm.
  • Toilet: Toilets are located by the Reed Barn and in the house.
