The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery is part of Stoke-on-Trent Museums Service. The museums service was established in 1911 with the Federation of the six towns of Stoke-on-Trent. The largest museum in the service, the Hanley Museum & Art Gallery, became the Stoke-on-Trent City Museum & Art Gallery when it moved to new premises in 1956, and the museum underwent major expansion in the late 1970s, winning the ‘Museum of the Year’ award in 1982. In 1998 the museum was rebranded as The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery (PMAG).

Galleries
The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery is home to diverse displays of art, local history, natural sciences and the world’s greatest collection of Staffordshire ceramics. The museum aims to be inclusive and open to all. We have reflection spaces around the museum where visitors can enjoy quiet moments. As well as areas within the galleries, we have a Secret Garden where visitors can sit and enjoy the garden space which includes locally crafted works of art.

Collections
They have almost one million objects in our diverse collections – far too many to display at any one time. The stored collections are made available through our online catalogue.

Education
The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery provides a range of inspiring workshops for Foundation to Key Stage 4 classes. Our workshops have been carefully developed to inspire, involve and motivate. We offer hands on, interactive workshops where your pupils can get up close to our amazing collections. Our collections include: local history, natural science, fine art, craft and ceramics.
