Free Things To Do

  • Uncover the dock’s history: Heritage is all around, including overhead where you’ll see centuries-old red metal cargo pulleys and under your feet – look down for tram tracks. Our warehouses, colonnades and flagstones date back to the dock’s construction in the mid-1800s, and the Pump House, which once held a first-of-a-kind hydraulic pumping system supplying power to the dock, still has its original red brick chimney.
  • See outdoor artwork: Liverpool has lots of fantastic public artworks including an eclectic trio at the dock. Sculptor Tom Murphy’s statue of singer Billy Fury stands on the green by the Piermaster’s House, along with The Crossing depicting a family migrating to America for a new life. In Mermaid Courtyard, Ugo Rondinone’s Liverpool Mountain is a towering 10-metre-high landmark of fluorescent balancing rocks.
  • Capture the day with a selfie: Royal Albert Dock is one of the UK’s most photographed attractions and we’re home to some of Liverpool’s best selfie spots. Fall in love with the cute backdrop of our giant hearts by Anchor Courtyard, or head to Britannia Pavilion on the inner quay for an unbeatable spot to capture the dock, Museum of Liverpool and the Three Graces all in one incredible shot.
  • Find a ‘Fab’ tribute to one of our music greats: Beatles fans come from all over the world to visit The Beatles Story but even before you step inside there’s a tribute to enjoy in Britannia Courtyard. The Beatles Story and Hofner Guitars commissioned a sculpture celebrating Paul McCartney’s 80th birthday – a giant four-metre-long replica of his famous guitar, flipped for left-handed playing of course!
  • Soak up the sunsets: If there’s a more beautiful location in Liverpool, we don’t know it! Take a stroll around the dock and then along the river for some of the most magnificent waterfront views in the city – gorgeous at any time of the day, but absolutely stunning at sunset.
