Rye Harbour Nature Reserve in East Sussex is one of England’s most important wildlife sites, covering over 800 acres of stunning coastal and wetland landscapes. Open all year round, it’s home to more than 4,355 species of plants and animals, including 300 that are rare or endangered. Visitors can enjoy miles of paths, explore the changing coastline, and take in the area’s rich military history.

The reserve offers five wheelchair-accessible birdwatching hides, the family-friendly Discovery Centre, and a seasonal café with beautiful saltmarsh views. Ten themed activity trails help families, walkers, and birdwatchers explore the diverse habitats and spot rare wildlife.

Entry is completely free, with parking available on site.

  • Discovery Centre: The Discovery Centre is accessible to all and open daily from 9.30am to 4.30pm (café last orders at 4.15pm). The Lime Kiln Café offers a seasonal menu of hot and cold food and drinks, that can be enjoyed with stunning views across the saltmarsh. 
  • Activity trails: With over 800 acres of stunning landscape to explore, why not pick up one of our handy activity trails to help you discover the nature reserve. We’ve created ten different trails, so whether you’re a family with kids to entertain or you’re hoping to spot some of the rarer birds or flowers, there’s something for everyone.
