Seaton Tramway is a fun day out in Devon, 3 miles of unspoilt countryside along the beautiful Axe Valley. Seaton Tramway operates narrow gauge heritage trams between Seaton, Colyford and Colyton in East Devon’s glorious Axe Valley, travelling alongside the River Axe estuary through two nature reserves and giving an unrivalled view of the abundant wading bird life.

The coastal resort of Seaton is now a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, whilst the historic town of Colyton is described as “Devon’s Most Rebellious Town” for its part in the Monmouth Rebellion of 1685. Seaton: Seaton Station was built in 2018 and is the first new station to be built by a heritage railway in many years and has seen highly complex railway engineering works take place, work not seen in the area since the tramway moved to Seaton in 1970. The Station is also home to Claudes Café
Riverside Halt: Home to Riverside Depot, the official head offices of Seaton Tramway and workshops and store of our fleet of 14 trams. Constructed in 1970 with extensions over the years, Riverside Depot was the original departure stop with the first tram departing in Seaton 28th August 1970. Inside we have a fully functioning metal workshop and wood workshop allowing us to maintain and repair the majority of servicing need on the tram fleet.
Seaton Wetlands Halt: Explore Seaton Wetlands and enjoy beautiful marshland and reedbeds alongside the River Axe. There are five bird hides and nearly 4km of level trails and boardwalks suitable for wheelchair, bike and pushchairs. A countryside haven, home to an abundance of wildlife.
Colyford: Although technically a borough, Colyford was granted a charter by Edward I in 1341 due to its accessibility to the River Axe which allowed sea-going vessels as far as Coly Bridge. Today it is a picturesque village with a long main street and beautiful character thatched houses. Each year in September on the Saturday closest to Michaelmas, Colyford holds its annual medieval Goose Fayre.
Colyton: Dating back to Saxon times, Colyton is a little piece of 1950's England set amongst stunning Devon countryside. The hexagonal lantern tower of St Andrew's Church provides a landmark for the town and there is a host of most interesting houses, shops and pubs dating back to medieval times dotted around the pretty town centre.
A Walk: Do you enjoy a nice walk as part of your day out? Seaton Tramway is surrounded by fantastic walks that you can include as part of your trip. Whether you break your journey or add it to the start or end of your day, there is a walk for you.
The Beach: Seaton Beach was the first Devon beach, London tourists could access by train at the weekend when the branch line came straight to Seaton, 1868-1966. You can include the beach as part of your visit to Seaton. Why not park at Colyton – Free parking - and take the tram to Seaton to enjoy a day on the beach. Or perhaps start in Seaton and break your day with lunch at Tramstop Café, Colyton.

Facilities

Parking: A Pay & Display car park is available at Seaton operated by East Devon District Council and there may be limited parking here from May 2014 due to the construction of the new Seaton Jurassic Centre. The recommended time for a return tram trip is at least 3 hours, longer at peak periods. A cheaper car park is available (£1.50 for 4 hours) across the Underfleet road before entering the Co-op car park.
Food & Drinks: Tramstop Café - The Garden Room at Colyton Station is a great place to enjoy the Tramstop Café delights.
