What to see

WALKS AND TRAILS
The growing series of walks and trails gives you a great introduction to the forest – they are the perfect way to begin to get to know this exciting place. Developed to suit all interests and energy levels, all trails start at the Visitor Centre and follow the markers through the forest.

THE MAJOR OAK
Probably the most famous resident of Sherwood Forest (after Robin Hood of course), the iconic Major Oak is an ancient giant that absolutely cannot be missed. Only a 15-minute walk from the new visitor centre, follow the Major Oak Trail through the forest from the visitor centre. Keep your eyes peeled when you follow this route, as you’ll also encounter some of Major Oak’s ancient, gnarled neighbours that make Sherwood so special!

FOR FAMILIES
There’s plenty to do for families with younger adventurers of all ages and interests. Whether they’re Robin Hood fanatics, budding beetle spotters, young nature lovers, or simply bursting with energy, just bring your spirit of adventure!On any day of the year you can lead your own expedition into the forest, following one of the many paths and bridleways to see where it takes you, or you can use our trails to help you on your way.
