  • Things to see and do: There’s so much more to a day out at Stonehenge than the awe-inspiring Stone Circle. Discover how the Stonehenge builders lived and worked in our fascinating exhibition, ask our knowledgeable staff and volunteers your burning questions about the stones, then grab a snack from the café to enjoy with the best view in the world!
  • Stone Circle: A walk around the Stone Circle is the centrepiece of any visit to the Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site. With a history spanning 4,500 years Stonehenge has many different meanings to people today. It is a wonder of the world, a spiritual place and a source of inspiration.
  • Exhibition: Discover the story of Stonehenge: the stones, the landscape, the people and its meaning, through a powerful combination of cutting-edge audio-visual experiences and incredible ancient objects. The exhibition contains nearly 300 archaeological objects, finds from Stonehenge and other nearby monuments, now displayed on site for the first time.
  • Gardens: No formal gardens, but there is a choice of walking routes available within the World Heritage Site, which are suitable for a range of ages and abilities. If choosing to walk along the road, please stay within the designated walking path at all times.

  • Parking: There is a £3 parking charge to non-members. We recommend downloading the Pay By Phone app in advance. English Heritage Members should display their membership sticker clearly in their car window. Associated Members (CSSC, NT England, CADW & Historic Scotland) also park free of charge but will need to display an exemption in their window which can be requested at admissions.
  • Food And Drink: Our spacious cafe serves a grab-and-go hot and cold food offer, including drinks, soup, pasties, sandwiches, salads and other sweet and savoury items. We cater for most dietary requirements including gluten-free and vegan.
  • Toilets: Male, female toilets, including accessible, baby and adult change facilities, are available at the visitor centre. No disposal facilities for toilet cassette waste. Please do not empty motorhome waste in our toilets as the chemicals poison the bacteria we use to breakdown the waste.
  • Dogs: Registered assistance dogs are welcome throughout, including the Stone Circle.

  • By train: Salisbury is the nearest train station. There is a direct line from London Waterloo which takes around 1h30m. From Salisbury you can take a taxi from the station (12 miles/19 km) or take the Stonehenge Tour Bus which departs hourly from the railway station forecourt. You have the option to stop off at Old Sarum if you choose to take the bus. 
  • By coach: There are many companies offering coach tours from London. Many of these depart from London Victoria 364 days per year. There are also small group and private hire options available to book online.
  • By car: Journey time from central London is around 2 hours. We encourage you to car share where possible. Stonehenge is located just off the A303. For Sat Nav use SP4 7DE and follow the brown and white tourist signs to the Visitor Centre.
