Addison Howard Park

The Forest of Marston Vale covers 61 square miles between Bedford and Milton Keynes which was a very different place before they came along. Massive pits had been dug throughout the countryside to supply Stewartby Brickworks with clay – many were then filled with waste and became landfill. Tree cover was a pitiful 3% - a third of the national average at the time.

Walks and routes
The Forest of Marston Vale is 61 square miles, and surrounded by the stunning countryside of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire - that's a lot to explore! They put together some of our favourite routes for walkers, cyclists and horse riders as part of the Paths 4 Communities project (funded by the EU through Natural England)The Forest obviously has loads of amazing green spaces, including 13 of the own woodlands which are all free to access on foot/bike/horseback, 365 days a year but these routes are all based around the Forest Centre & Millennium Country Park.
Forest school
Essentially, it’s an opportunity for kids to explore and learn on their own terms and at their own speeds, whilst encouraging an understanding and respect for nature that hopefully stays with them for life. Trained providers show children basic, outdoor skills (e.g how to whittle wood, making knots) and then they are left to their own devices to find out solutions in their own time. It’s an opportunity for children to immerse themselves in nature and explore woodlands, which they may not get to do in their free time. It’s a great way for kids to develop bonds within their groups, and learn from each other, boosting confidence and communication skills.
