The Hepworth Wakefield is an art museum in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England, which opened on 21 May 2011. The gallery is situated on the south side of the River Calder and takes its name from artist and sculptor Barbara Hepworth who was born and educated in the city. 

Designed by the acclaimed David Chipperfield Architects, The Hepworth Wakefield is set within Wakefield’s historic waterfront, overlooking the River Calder.

  • By train: The gallery is 0.3 miles from Wakefield Kirkgate train station (approximately 8 minutes walk) and 1 mile from Westgate train station (approximately 20 minutes walk).
  • By bus: The gallery is on the FreeCityBus route operated every 10-12 minutes from 7.30am to 6.36pm, Monday to Fridays and between 8.30pm and 5pm on Saturdays.
  • By bike: We have installed a cycle rack by our Blue Badge bays near the main entrance.
  • By coach: We don’t have facilities for coach parking, however there is a coach drop off point on Thornes Lane, WF1 5QJ, opposite The Hepworth Wakefield’s car park / at the end of the bridge leading to the gallery – by prior arrangement only.
