The museum brings to life the experience of learning, playing and living at Eton College across six centuries. The museum sets the history and traditions of Eton alongside stories of daily life of students, staff and visitors. 

Housed in an undercroft once used to store beer for the King’s Scholars, the museum serves as a place for members of the public, visiting schools, prospective students, local residents and the college community to explore the social and historical context of the school.

  • Exhibitions: A programme of diverse and exciting special exhibitions showcases and interprets objects from across the College Collections, and also regularly features items on loan. Our exhibitions are free and open to the public on Sunday afternoons. You can also make an appointment to visit on weekdays between 10am and 4pm. 
  • Collections Care: Our conservation team cares for wide range of objects in the collections, including textiles, ceramics, stained glass, metals, furniture, paper and fine art.
  • Fine & Decorative Art: A collection encompassing a broad range of exceptional works of art representing many great artists, mainly British, active from the 15th century to the present day. This collection dates back to the first century after the college’s foundation in 1440.
  • College Library: Our significant collections of rare books and manuscripts are open to researchers, explored by school, university and specialist groups, and publicly displayed in a programme of special exhibitions.
  • Archival Collections: Eton College has a rich and varied collection of records and photographs relating to its own history as well as areas of special interest including travel writing, theatrical history and World War One.

  • Parking: Two council-run public car parks are located close to Eton College at Eton Court, Eton, SL4 6BY and Meadow Lane, Eton, SL4 6BS.
  • Food and drink: There is drinking water available in the Brewhouse Yard toilet facilities, the Jafar Hall (Museum of Antiquities) and College Library and Archives. There are a number of local cafes and restaurants on Eton High Street, a short walk from the college.  
  • Toilets: Toilets, including a wheelchair-accessible toilet, are located in Brewhouse Yard, accessed from Eton High Street via Baldwin’s Shore.

  • Opening: Free admission on Sundays from 1:30pm–4:00pm (check “What’s On” before visiting as galleries may occasionally close).
  • Reading Room: Open by appointment Monday–Friday (except bank holidays), 9:30am–1:00pm and 2:00pm–4:30pm, with a 10:00am start on Tuesdays.
