  • The Mining Section: The museum’s new Mining Section was developed in collaboration with the Cumbria Amenity Trust Mining History Society and other specialists.
    • The Mining Room: Features artefacts, plans, and photographs documenting local mines that historically extracted copper, iron, lead, zinc, tungsten, graphite, barites, and fluorite. It also includes displays on mining tools, lighting, drilling, and explosives.
    • The Quarry Room: Explores the connection between the Lake District's geology and its quarrying industry. It displays rock samples from key local formation along with photographs and samples from over fifty quarries both old and new.
    • The Quarry Site: Showcases a unique collection of vintage excavators and quarry machinery. The 2ft gauge mineral railway provides a safe ride into the inner quarry to view the quarry faces.
  • Threlkeld Quarry Railway: Narrow gauge railway stretches half a mile featuring steep gradients, including a section of 1/20. It is home to three passenger locomotives and a selection of internal combustion and battery electric locomotives displayed in the Top Shed.
    • Sir Tom: Built in 1926 by Bagnall of Stafford, Sir Tom worked at British Insulated Callender Cables until 1968. After lying idle for 33 years, it was restored and has been hauling passengers at Threlkeld since 2010. Recently passing its 10-year boiler inspection, Sir Tom operates during summer holidays and select weekends.
    • Hunslet: A rare 50hp, 0-4-0 diesel locomotive from 1945, originally used by the National Coal Board in South Yorkshire. After a full rebuild at Threlkeld, it now runs passenger trains with improved visibility.
    • Ruston: Built in 1947 and previously used by the Royal Navy Armaments Depot at Broughton Moor, Ruston was regauged and fitted with air brakes to operate on passenger trains.

  • By Car:
    • Follow brown tourist signs for Threlkeld Quarry.
    • Take the B5322 (St John's in the Vale Road) from the A66.
    • The Quarry is less than a mile from the junction.
  • By Public Transport:
    • West Coast mainline trains stop at Penrith.
    • Take the Stagecoach X4 bus (hourly Monday to Saturday, every 2 hours on Sundays) to Threlkeld Old Post Office.
    • From there, it’s a 25-minute walk across the valley to the Quarry.
