Welcome to Mayfield Preparatory School, a co-educational independent preparatory school in the West Midlands, founded in 1893 and set in extensive wooded grounds on the edge of the town of Walsall. Mayfield offers a long standing tradition of academic achievement with excellent results in national testing and an outstanding record of success at 11+ entrance examinations.

For many years, Mayfield has been held in great esteem for providing generations of children with an unrivalled start to their education and is widely regarded as one of the leading Prep schools in the West Midlands.

At Mayfield, the aim is to provide the highest standards of education for our pupils in a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment that allows our children to develop their potential and individuality.

Mayfield Preparatory School provides a happy, purposeful working environment where pupils pursue academic excellence and where pupils are prepared for a variety of examinations including senior school entrance exams and both KS1 and KS2 SATs. There is an emphasis on traditional, whole class teaching with specialist staff in Art, Design Technology, French, Classical Studies, Computing, English, Mathematics, Music, PE and Games, Science, Current Affairs, Forest Schools and Study Skills. Pupils are also expected to show courtesy and self-discipline through well established routines and expectations

Admission Details

Mayfield is a thriving school, with pupils generally entering into our Pre Nursery at the beginning of the Autumn Term (September) and the Spring Term (January) at the age of 2+.  They then progress to Nursery where they complete three full terms before moving into Main School.  Sometimes however, places may become available in other year groups, allowing entry to the school throughout the academic year.  The link below guides you to our admissions policy.
