Pre-Prep
The Pre-Preparatory Department is a happy, purposeful and friendly place for boys aged 4-7 years. We have nine small classes, with three parallel classes in each year group. At the age of 7, boys move into Year 3 at the Prep School.The beautiful, stimulating grounds in Hertfordshire and well-structured curriculum provide an environment for our boys to flourish both socially and academically in our boys pre-prep school.We encourage self-expression linked to self-discipline, as well as a caring attitude and respect for others. They recognise the importance of a boy’s early steps into education and focus on instilling a love of learning. They aim to inspire and build confidence in a caring and secure environment.
Prep
Boys move from the Pre-Prep into our boys Prep School, Hertfordshire at the end of Year 2. In Years 3 – 5 the boys are in small classes with a Form Teacher who looks after their pastoral care as well as teaches them for the majority of their lessons. Specialist teaching in a wide range of subjects starts from Year 5 with the younger years enjoying subjects such as art, music and PE with the specialist teacher. From Year 6 the boys are placed with a Tutor who will monitor a boy's pastoral and academic progress for his remaining years at the school.Boys stay at Aldwickbury for Year 7 and 8 where they flourish as independent learners and take on positions of leadership with the School community.
Extra-Curricular
An Aldwickbury education does not stop when the boys leave the classroom. The philosophy is very much about educating the whole child and as such our extra-curricular life is strong. There is a wide range of activities on offer and the boys are encouraged to join in with all that goes on here. The activity list is long and varied we aim to find something for everyone to enjoy.Some things such as drama, music and sport take place as part of the normal routine of the school day and boys’ interests are well catered for. Other activities take place at break times, after school and supper and in some cases even before breakfast!
Selection Criteria: Selective
Whilst the majority of boys who join the Junior Department come from the Pre-Prep there are always a number of new joiners in both Year 3 and 4 and this can be throughout the year. The classes in these years are still small and class teachers are there to look after the boys whole educational and pastoral experience.

Scholarships
Aldwickbury is not an academically selective school; rather it takes boys with a range of abilities and ensures that we meet their individual needs. This includes making sure that our most able boys are given plenty of opportunities to shine in their specialist area. Some boys will have the opportunity to take academic scholarship exams, whilst others will attempt to gain awards in other specific areas.
