Austin Friars

Description

Austin Friars is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 19 (Gender - 3 to 19 )

Austin Friars continues to be the first choice school for parents considering independent day education in Cumbria and South West Scotland. At Austin Friars they are careful not to confuse public examination assessment with Education. Whilst any school would be proud of our GCSE and A’ Level results, including those selective schools in Cumbria and beyond, we are proud to offer more than just an excellent academic education. An education system based solely on skills and academic intelligence is not enough to equip our pupils to face the challenges that tomorrow will bring. Children need to learn to interact with each other; they need to learn to listen, to adapt, to take risks, to create, to recover from failure and to overcome adversity. Everything we do at Friars, in all 3 phases of the school, (Pre-School, Junior School and Senior School), is designed to equip the pupils with the skills they need to deal with themselves, with others and with problems!

Facilities

Pre-School and Kindergarten
Situated in its own mature grounds, the Pre-School provides a secure setting for the youngest pupils offering excellent indoor and outdoor activities. Children joining Pre-School and Kindergarten are at the beginning of their educational journey and as such are immediately integrated into our School community. From the earliest days, they try to develop sound spiritual and social values by encouraging the children to co-operate with and care for each other and to develop a love and respect for their surroundings. The aim is to provide the very best in Early Years education, in a caring and stimulating environment, giving each child the individual attention they need. Part time and full time places for children from 3 years to School age are available.  They participate in the scheme for Free Early Years Provision, including 30 hours funded places.

Junior School
From the moment you step into the stunning state of the art building offering high standards of comfort and accommodation, pupils’ well-being and security is palpable. The importance of good primary education cannot be over emphasized and the Junior School commits itself to this purpose. A capable and highly motivated team of teachers, dedicated to the aims and ethos of the School, foster an environment where each child’s talents and potential are carefully nurtured. A broad and rigorous curriculum encourages high achievement alongside sporting, cultural and personal development. Carefully and creatively, each child’s talents and potential are explored.

Senior School
Austin Friars has a strong reputation in the North of Cumbria and South West Scotland for providing an all round, high quality education which meets the individual needs of each child. They are proud of the academic achievement of the pupils where the results speak for themselves. The school works hard to create an atmosphere where all students can achieve their best in a wide and varied range of subjects as well as beyond the classroom where they offer an extensive extra curricular programme which ensures that they provide an education for the whole person. Music, creative and physical activity are integral to the curriculum where individual success is celebrated and healthy competition is encouraged.
