2-11 Years

Description

Beechtree Steiner Initiative is Independent Primary school in Leeds for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Beechtree has been through a prolonged period of crisis for the last two years. Both the staff team and the board of trustees have worked incredibly hard to ensure Beechtree survives this period.Beechtree has been such a magical and unique place for so many families for over twenty years, it is truly heart-breaking that they have to close and they are saddened by the impact this then has for Steiner Waldorf Education in Leeds. However, the challenges that they have faced over the last two years have been unprecedented and the wider educational landscape has changed significantly since they started.

Facilities

Kindergarten
In the Kindergartens children grow in a secure and caring environment, surrounded by quality natural toys and materials and regular outdoor play in all weathers that allow the children to develop physical and social skills along with creative and imaginative play that together form a wonderful foundation for life. They have two Kindergarten groups, of up to 16 children each day, with one teacher and at least one assistant each. The groups are mixed age, with children from 3 to 6 years old.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Statutory Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Birth – 5 years, applies to all settings including theirs.  It sets out both learning and development requirements and safeguarding and welfare requirements for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday.  A revised version of the EYFS came into force on the 1st September 2021. The focus of the new EYFS Learning and Development requirements and Early Learning Goals have changed, and the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship negotiated exemptions and modifications to some of these under the ‘Established Principles’ route for all Steiner schools and settings. They have now received the letter from the Secretary of State outlining these exemptions, and they are now free to follow the Steiner Waldorf early childhood curriculum without compromise.
