Admission Details

Making the Admissions process as productive as possible, the key aim is to ascertain if Bredon School is the right fit for your child. This process can take time given the Schools’ Dyslexia specialism and unique offering.

As an Independent Dyslexia specialist school, they do not ask prospective pupils to sit entrance examinations. They do however ask all pupils who attend a taster experience to sit both a Lucid test for English and a Wrat 5 test for Maths, enabling to ascertain exactly what levels of support your child will need at Bredon and importantly if the level of support required would create barriers to accessing the curriculum.

Additionally, they will ask to see your child’s most recent school reports together with any specialist assessments (e.g. Educational Psychologist report), if appropriate. All submitted reports are reviewed by Admissions panel. Prospective pupils with Educational Health and Care Plans will also be reviewed by Director of Learning Development who will confirm that any additional specific learning requirements your child has can be supported at Bredon.

Once it has been established that Bredon is the appropriate setting for your child, the next step takes the form of an individual visit. This can be arranged on most weekdays during term time. Visits offer the opportunity to meet the Headmaster for an interview which generally lasts for half an hour, see classes in action, talk to staff and pupils whilst gaining a real sense of all that Bredon has to offer.

Following a successful review and interview with the Headmaster, parents will be invited to make a formal application on their child’s behalf. This would entail completing Registration Forms and making a payment of the Registration Fee. Once these documents are received, they would arrange a taster experience. At this point, they will contact your child’s current School to request a reference to support their application with them.

The taster experience gives the prospective pupils the opportunity to join their peer group allowing them access to the creative curriculum and extensive extra-curricular activities. Establishing friendships and familiarising themselves with facilities is all part of the experience. Once the taster visit has concluded then the final outcome will be confirmed to parents as soon as possible.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Team on 01684 293156 or email them at [email protected] a warm welcome awaits you.
