Farmor's School

Fairford Pre-School, Fairford GL7 4JQ, United Kingdom
11-19 Years

Description

Farmor's School is a State Secondary school for kids aged 11 to 19 (Gender - Mixed)

Farmor's School offers something unique, which is why some of the students travel a distance to study here; from Swindon, Cricklade and villages from miles around.  Founded in 1738, the school has a sense of history and tradition which few comprehensive schools can lay claim to, this in turn structures our ethos and values.  Set in the Cotswold town of Fairford and surrounded by beautiful countryside the school is a calm and pleasant environment for learning.  They are a proudly independent, principled and confident school. However, do not be fooled in to thinking that Farmor's School is a sleepy retreat.  The school is equipped with excellent facilities including modern science labs, a business conference centre, sports facilities and a Sixth Form Learning Resource Centre! The thriving arts culture, successful sports teams and outdoor pursuits activities ensure students are engaged in the wider life of the school.

Curriculum
The intention is for students to study the same broad and balanced curriculum up to the end of Year 9, which is a three-year KS3 and KS4 curriculum. The National Curriculum is the basis for the curriculum in each subject area, with subjects then choosing to supplement this with content that they feel is both relevant and useful. They believe that the entire educational experience is valuable to students in preparing them for their future lives. They aim to give students powerful knowledge through the curriculum and transformational experiences through their participation in educational visits, clubs and other co-curricular opportunities. The values – Integrity, Fellowship & Endeavour – underpin our approach to curriculum.

Features

Things to note

Sport
For many students, their identity and sense of self-worth is built on their sporting ability. They have many talented sports people who, individually and in teams, punch well above their weight locally and nationally.

The arts
The process of artistic creativity and the opportunity to perform helps students develop essential life skills and an understanding of the world. The talented musicians, actors and artists grow in confidence due to  Farmor’s nurturing environment.

Outdoor pursuits
A love of the outdoors and desire to challenge ourselves physically and psychologically underpins the rich outdoor pursuits programme. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is available from Year 9 to Sixth Form and the ‘Far Moors Mountain Expedition Club’ aims to scale new heights each year. For those keen to cultivate the land, the horticulture curriculum develops green fingers.

Educational visits
The world becomes our classroom when students venture on one of the many educational visits they offer each year. They believe that these visits bring the curriculum to life and build strong relationships between students and staff.
