Description

Howell's School, Llandaff GDST is Independent Secondary school for kids aged 3 to 18 (Gender - mix )

At Howell’s School, Llandaff we believe that a girl’s success should be measured not by grades, but by her influence on the world. The willingness and ability to learn, to lead and to serve are what enable a life to be both well-lived and worthwhile. The students and our staff see every day as an opportunity, as a chance to grow and a chance to learn. That journey as a life-long learner begins the moment a child starts at Howell’s. Howell’s is defined by a wonderfully diverse student body, outstanding pastoral care, academic excellence and an exciting co-curriculum. They are grounded and forward-thinking and always ambitious. They understand that for our students to make progress, they must be comfortable with who they are. When they leave us, our young people find their feet and follow their dreams, whether those dreams take them to the top of a mountain, under an engine or behind the bench at the Old Bailey.

Facilities

Nursery
Every day brings a new chance to ask questions, to try out new skills and to find out more about the world around us. Howell’s Nursery offers a world of adventure and imagination, whether they are exploring light through kaleidoscopes and mirrors, dancing in the rain or watching chocolate melt to make tea-time treats, our youngest girls grow more curious and more creative every day.In our two airy, bright classrooms, they explore real life situations through role play, dressing up, puppets and stories. The girls create their own small worlds using a variety of toys brought alive by imagination.

Prep School
The Prep School girls are encouraged to recognise that education does not stop at the classroom door, that each moment of every day represents an opportunity to learn and to understand.Howell's Prep School provides a stellar education to our energetic community of girls aged between three and eleven. They seek to foster a love of knowledge with the ability to question and make informed judgements. From Year 3 to Year 6, a Modern Foreign Language specialist teaches all the girls Spanish and French as part of the weekly timetable. From Reception to Year 6, girls also enjoy Welsh lessons and the whole curriculum has Welsh flavours in celebration of the history and culture of Wales.

Senior School
They understand that every girl is an individual, and that talent and potential lie within each one of them. Howell's inspires and motivates students, fostering an appetite for lifelong learning and helping them acquire the skills for tackling a competitive and rapidly changing world. The teachers have a deep enthusiasm for their subjects and are committed to providing high-quality teaching which develops intellectually curious, self-motivated, enthusiastic young women with an enduring love of learning. Regular, tailored feedback between teacher and student, in all aspects of work and play, is at the heart of the success in allowing each girl to realise her true potential.

Features

Things to note

Learning Support
At Howell’s School and College, they have high expectations of all students and they aim to promote achievement through the removal of barriers to learning and participation. The aim is to ensure the full integration and inclusion of all students in the life of the school and to maximise their learning potential.Although they are a selective school, they recognise that some students might have difficulties accessing the curriculum; in these cases effective and differentiated support is provided within the classroom by the subject teacher. Students with additional learning needs, however, may require structured learning support which is different from the more general classroom support given to other students of the same age.
