Kingsbridge Community College is a State Secondary school for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Mixed)
They are passionate about learning and ensuring that the learners thrive and grow amidst our beautiful surroundings here in South Devon. They have high aspirations for every student and they strive to ensure that they are able to achieve their full potential through a clear focus on learning and achievement in a supportive environment. They recognise the benefits an excellent education brings and encourage the students to be ambitious and bold in their learning journey and to make the most of every opportunity. Students only get one chance and they take the role in providing the best possible opportunities for them very seriously. We are proud of the excellent teaching, care and guidance that they offer, along with first class facilities and a wide range of opportunities in and beyond the classroom. They are justifiably proud of our community, and routinely seek excellence in all that they do.
Curriculum
In Year 7-10 and Year 12 and 13, tutorial time each morning is used to develop our students’ reading fluency. Students in Year 7-10 read books from the Kingsbridge Reading Canon which are chosen to be diverse in terms of authors, cultural experience and genre. The books are challenging texts and tutors use a range of techniques to ensure that students are engaging with the development of their ability to read. In Year 12 and 13, students read challenging academic and non-fiction texts that are chosen to help to broaden students’ cultural awareness and to develop their ability to read academic literature. In Year 11, in response to the disruption to education caused by the pandemic, tutorial sessions focus on learning content taught online during lockdown in English, Maths and Science. These sessions have a particular focus on ensuring that there are no gaps in learning as a result of lockdowns. Students also have planned study skills sessions to enable them to practise techniques to help them to retain information in their long-term memories: to know and remember more.
Extra-Curricular Activities
At KCC they offer a wide range of sports clubs and activities for all year groups. Clubs are of course free and students don’t need to commit to attending every week to be able to attend. Staff will select students from clubs to represent the college in fixtures. Lunch time clubs run from 13:45 – 14:15 and after college clubs run from 15:30-16:30. The timetable of clubs is below and is colour coded. Blue font explains what the club is, red is the changing room that students meet at and green lets you know who the staff member is that is running that club. To ensure we provide as many opportunities as possible most clubs will run for a term before we rotate to a different sport or activity. To attend a club you need to make sure you have your full KCC PE kit and meet on time at the relevant changing rooms.
