Description

Lord Williams’s School is a thriving and popular comprehensive school serving the Thame community and its surrounding rural area. They are a split-site school, with Years 7 – 9 on the Lower School site at Towersey Road and Years 10 – 13 on the Upper School site at Oxford Road. They pay particular attention to each individual student by promoting their personal, social and educational development to enable all to achieve at the highest level possible.  As a result of continuing success, Lord Williams’s School is consistently oversubscribed.

Facilities

Lord Williams’s School has many excellent facilities including a purpose-built Drama studio, Sports halls, a new Science building and Skills Centre, Astro-turf pitches and extensive sports playing fields. The Sixth Form has dedicated study space and a common room. The school also has use of the facilities at Thame Leisure Centre including the swimming pool and gym.

Things to note

  • The school believes in extending students’ horizons beyond Thame to further national and international understanding with local, national and international trips. Their inclusive ethos ensures that every effort is made to make these opportunities available to all students ranging from local and regional trips to more extensive international visits.
  • Outdoor education makes a unique contribution to school life. The aim is to develop students’ independence, confidence, team-working and problem-solving skills, fitness and love of the outdoors. They aim to deliver Outdoor Education not Outdoor Activities! There is a high level of participation with over 200 students and 70 parent supporters involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
  • The range of lunchtime and after-school activities run by staff is vast and ever-growing, including topics in ICT, sport, music and drama to name but a few. Please click here to view this term's clubs; this information is also published on a termly basis in the school’s newsletter.
  • The aim is to offer a full range of sporting opportunities both within and outside of lessons with an emphasis on promoting inclusion, healthy lifestyles and developing excellence. To support this, they deliver a balanced range of activities within lesson times and a broad range of extra-curricular clubs.
  • The tradition for excellence and inclusion is further supported by extensive range of sports facilities on both sites.
  • In addition to thriving art clubs on both sites, the students benefit from exciting and stimulating workshops provided by visiting professionals in the fields of art, music, drama and dance. Students are offered opportunities to visit galleries and museums across the world with recent trips to Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and New York. As part of the Barclays New Futures Programme, Sixth Form students work on art projects with children from our partnership primary schools.
  • The school has a long tradition for excellence in dance and drama and every year many students take part in plays, musicals, evenings of dance and combined arts productions. Students benefit from close relationship with Thame Youth Theatre.
  • Upper School and Lower School choirs, orchestras and ensembles are run for students of all ages. There are regular music concerts and the ever-popular Singer of the Year competition is always a sell-out. The Willie Howe Trust provides bursaries for individual students and support for workshops.
