Nottingham High School is an independent, Public School, day school for boys and girls in Nottingham with an Infant and Junior School (ages 4–11) and Senior School (ages 11–18).

Facilities

  • On site at Nottingham High School they have a 25m swimming pool, a climbing wall, a large sports hall and a traditional gymnasium. The Valley Road playing fields are situated two miles away from the main school campus and have extensive areas for Rugby, Cricket, Netball, Rounders and Tennis.

  • The Nottingham High School Holiday Club takes place in the Easter and Summer holidays, providing fun and fulfilment for children in Reception to Year 8 while they are off school.

Admission Details

Infant School Entry: The Infant School educates children from Reception to Year 2, and welcomes new pupils at all year groups subject to availability.The main entry point is Reception, admission for which follows an assessment process to evaluate your child’s potential for learning. Following this initial process, your child will then be invited back for a final practical classroom-based assessment. Admission to the School in Year 1 and Year 2 follows an admissions process to evaluate skills in numeracy and literacy, as well as your child’s potential for learning. Your child may then be invited back for a final classroom-based assessment.

Junior School Entry: Nottingham High Junior School educates children from Year 3 to Year 6, and welcomes new pupils at all year groups subject to availability.The Junior School admissions process assesses your child’s ability in the core subjects of Mathematics and English, including reading, along with some measures of general ability. A member of staff will also spend some time in an informal interview with your child, where they will be looking for their ability to listen and speak freely with enthusiasm on a variety of topics of their choice. 

Senior School Entry: Nottingham High Senior School educates children from Year 7 to Year 11, and welcomes new students in Years 7-10 subject to availability.The main entry point to the Senior School is Year 7, but there is also the opportunity to join the School in Years 8-10 subject to places being available. Entrance to Nottingham High School is by assessment. Main entrance assessments take place in January, consisting of a verbal and non-verbal Reasoning test done on a computer, a Mathematics paper and an English paper. Following on from this, a selection of students are invited in for an interview and the final offers are made in the following fortnight.

Sixth Form Entry: The Sixth Form at Nottingham High School educates students in Year 12 and 13, and welcomes new students into Year 12. Joining the Sixth Form is by interview and on the basis of academic achievement at GCSE. Applicants are invited to interview following a report from their current school indicating their predicted GCSE grades. The likely offer made, following a successful interview, will be conditional on a minimum of 5 A / 7 grades, with A / 7 grades in the subjects to be taken in the Sixth Form.

Infant School Tuition Fees:  £3,791 per term
Junior School Tuition Fees:  £4,410 per term
Senior School Tuition Fees:  £5,536 per term

Scholarships

Nottingham High School operates a scholarship scheme for pupils entering the school at age 11 into Year 7.

Academic Part Scholarships are a fixed sum automatically awarded to the top performing students at the end of Year 7. These cannot be applied for – every student who joins Year 7 will be entered for this. These are known as the Sir Thomas White entrance scholarships.

Music Scholarship auditions are held within the Music department during the first term of Year 7. As a guide, pupils should be around Grade 4 standard or higher on their principal instrument in order to apply (although they need not have the official examined grades).

There are not currently scholarships available for any other subjects or activities other than music.
