Facilities

Curriculum
They are a multi-cultural school where the individual needs of highly able students are met and the development of the ‘whole’ person lies at the heart of the ethos. They offer the students a highly academic, rich and diverse curriculum, which supports and nurtures individual learning needs and talents.  Whilst students continue to follow the breadth and depth of the curriculum in year 7 and 8, students begin the GCSE courses in the separate sciences of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. All students study Religious Studies and PSHCE through enrichment sessions, when the normal lesson timetable is suspended, these take place throughout the year. These sessions allow students to learn in different ways often with external speakers and workshop providers. These learning experiences cover subjects such as Tolerance, Staying Safe, British Values, Study Skills and Career guidance.

Features

Things to note

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Children and young people with SEN have different needs, but the general presumption is that all children with SEN but without an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) are welcome to apply for a place at our School, in line with the school admissions policy. If a place is available, they will undertake to use our best endeavours, in partnership with parents, to make the provision required to meet the SEN of pupils at Queen Mary’s High School. Concerns may be raised by parents/carers, external agencies, teachers, the pupil’s previous school or the pupil themselves, regarding concerns relating to their levels of progress or inclusion in the curriculum. Screening, such as that completed on entry or as a result of a concern being raised, indicates gaps in the pupil’s knowledge and/or skills.
