Ruthin School is Independent Secondary school in selective for kids aged 10 to 20 (Gender - mix )
The pupils tend to be extremely able academically and are keen to learn and expand their horizons. They provide them with the framework to stretch themselves to achieve exceptional academic results. Despite this, Ruthin is a gentle school that prepares its pupils to face the challenges of the changing world beyond the school gates. It focuses heavily on encouraging friendships and building self-confidence in all its pupils that will last them a lifetime. The School has a selective entry so that pupils are able to cope with our high level of academic education. Of course, school life includes more than just academics and, with a full range of co-curricular activities, our pupils can enjoy many opportunities outside the classroom. A world-class education challenges pupils in all areas of their development: academic, social, and physical.
Academic
Academic study runs through the heart of school life at Ruthin. Ruthin is committed to providing a first-class education for all its pupils and is one of the top ten schools in the United Kingdom based on our academic performance. They achieve this, alongside the wrap around pastoral care, by combining top quality teaching with full academic support to the pupils through our system of academic mentors and tutors, and rigorous performance assessment. The curriculum is broad-based and balanced and we offer small class sizes to our pupils. The School offers a wide range of GCSE, AS and A level courses and is proud of its outstanding academic achievement with a high percentage of our A level results at grade A or A*.Many of the pupils apply to top universities in the UK and abroad, including Oxford and Cambridge, and choose the most sought-after courses, including Law, Medicine, Architecture, and Engineering. The acceptance to Cambridge and Oxford is excellent, and the overwhelming majority of the other pupils enter the very best universities, including Imperial, Edinburgh, Warwick, LSE and London.
Ruthin Learning Experience
The structure of learning at Ruthin School is specifically designed to mirror a child’s age and maturity. Developing intellectual curiosity, the capacity to challenge, to learn independently and to reason are core to building successful academic outcomes.A school must prepare its pupils for an increasingly challenging global market where rote learning and robotic learning are a hindrance rather than a help, especially at university. High academic results blended with soft skills are key. It is for these reasons that Sport, Drama, Art and Music are so beneficial – at school, at university and in future careers.
Sport & Physical activity
A School has a responsibility to keep children fit and encourage a healthy lifestyle. Scientific evidence clearly shows that fitness has a positive affect on wellbeing, mental stamina and academic performance. Sport is delivered within the philosophy of enjoyment, participation and wellbeing.
