Sancton Wood School

Description

Sancton Wood School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 1 to 16 (Gender - 1 to 16 )

They believe that exceptional pastoral care makes for happy children and a happy child is a learning child. Place those children in small classes with outstanding teachers and wrap around a thriving enrichment programme and the outcome will be remarkable. This is proven year after year with the academic results. At Sancton Wood they believe that if a child is happy, has good self-esteem and a sense of belonging, they are in the right place to learn.  When your child comes to us, they will help them discover and develop their unique skills and talents to be the best they can be as they follow on their educational journey.Sancton Wood offers an all through education, providing seamless progression without distracting entrance exams and potentially messy transitions, especially at 11 and 13.  This means the complete learning journey can be planned and delivered without interruption.  Another feature of the school is its human scale – both in terms of overall size and the number of children in each class.  Pupils do not form a cohort here; every child is known and is an individual, and they know that each and every one of them has an adult who not only cares deeply about them but also has the time to take care of them.

Facilities

Nursery
Sancton Wood Nursery is housed in its own beautiful Victorian building which is perfect for nurturing and fostering relationships with the children and families. Sancton Wood Nursery aims to inspire each child to be the best that they can be within a nurturing, safe, happy and stimulating environment. At the Nursery, and indeed all through the school, they are proud to offer small classes to offer a bespoke learning experience with highly qualified and experienced staff to support the children in their first steps of their educational journey. The pastoral approach helps guide the children to become independent and resilient young learners. The Nursery aims to inspire each child to be the best that they can be within a nurturing, safe, happy and stimulating environment, by providing an education of the highest quality.

Pre-Prep Prep
The Prep School is home to lively and inquiring minds, and is a place where intellectual curiosity is part of every day. From Reception to Y6 , children are taught in small class sizes where the individual is seen and value. Recognising the worth of each person, they ensure that each child has targets and support to help them achieve their potential. They have an impressive offer of Modern Foreign Languages, which, along with PE and Creative Arts, are taught by specialist teachers – a challenging and engaging curriculum is on offer long with the core subjects. Small class sizes mean that they can walk with the individual on their educational journey and extend the curriculum both ways so that everyone can succeed and be stretched. Core subject learning gives pupils an excellent foundation of key skills and knowledge, and these provide confidence to be creative across the board. Linked to the senior school, they are fortunate to have access to excellent resources and specialist input, for example in Science and Art.

Senior
The Senior School’s aim is to develop young people who are knowledgeable, caring and successful with bright, enquiring minds. They want the students to have a positive approach to life, to broaden their horizons and to value the chance to think and study independently. We are proud of the success they have in securing Sancton Wood students the best grades possible and the opportunity to make exceptional progress. They also take great pride in our excellent GCSE Results, placing us in the Sunday Times Top 100 and the success our students have in securing the post-16 routes of their choice. The recent £10 million investment in our new Senior School on Bateman Street gives our students the space for a calm, stimulating and purposeful environment in which to learn from the inspirational teachers as well as access to specialist facilities for science, art and drama.

Features

Things to note

Enrichment
Education is about more than what happens in the classroom. A well-rounded academic provision must also include a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities and they deliver this in style across the school with a really exciting and inspiring enrichment programme. Students are offered opportunities to explore and discover over 100 activities which allows them to delve into areas that interest them the most in practical, fun and exciting ways. The programme offers activities across: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) from Rocketry to Artificial Intelligence and Robotics to Young Medics.
Creative Arts and English which allows our students to experience areas of the arts and get an insight into what a career might be like both on the stage, dancing or as part of an orchestra or behind the scenes song-writing, doing the stage make-up or designing the costumes or set.
Sport: developing skills or learning new ones in areas such as rowing, self defence, Equestrian NSEA or yoga.

SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability)
The entrance procedure will identify those needs and establish what additional provision may be needed to best support the child. This could be small group work, 1:1 sessions or even a slightly adapted timetable to allow for additional sessions in core subjects or time to consolidate learning. A child with special educational needs is understood to have either a learning difficulty or a disability and the child needs special educational provision to be made for them.  This is any educational provision which is additional to or different from that generally made for other children of the same age in a mainstream school.

Sport
The broad and balanced timetable of sporting events and enrichment opportunities give students the opportunity to discover and thrive in sport while developing an understanding for leading a healthy active lifestyle. They are fortunate to be able to access professional standard facilities right on our doorstep including CANTABs Rugby Club, Cambridge University Cricket Club’s indoor sports facilities and Kelsey Kerridge gym and sports centre, Hills road tennis centre. The pupils are given swimming lessons from Reception year 6.
