Facilities
Lower School
Lower school classrooms are characterized by a stimulating, caring and relaxed atmosphere. Students learn to take risks and explore their world through concrete experiences. Because young children learn best when they see the connections between subjects and when their work directly relates to their own lives, the lower school integrates the activities of the school day as much as possible.
Middle School
The Middle School offers a caring and academically rich environment in which all students are challenged to pursue their passions and reach their potential. Middle school is a time marked by great change in an individual’s life. During these years, adolescents develop their sense of self and their relationship with the world around them. Our community of caring and talented educators is committed to nurturing, inspiring and challenging each student at this important stage of his or her development.
High School
The school community works collaboratively to encourage and support the growth of our students in their social-emotional well-being, and in their academic experience. In espousing a holistic view of adolescent development, our faculty and staff in the High School put students at the center of every discussion. Students are not only encouraged, but are expected, to play an important role in determining the paths that they will forge during their time in the High School. While evolving their sense of independence, students also develop themselves further in the five areas related to ASL’s core values—respect, responsibility, kindness, integrity and the courage to act.

By gaining self-knowledge and building self-advocacy skills, students are able to become productive, confident individuals and more resourceful lifelong learners. The SSST programs are designed to support students for success in the mainstream classroom. Academic support lessons aim to teach a variety of skills and strategies as a foundation to accessing our challenging curriculum. Specialists collaborate and consult regularly with classroom teachers for the benefit of all students.
Athletics
ASL believes that a dynamic athletics program is essential to the education and character development of its students. The athletics department is dedicated to providing the best possible learning environment for the physical, cognitive and social development of its student-athletes. What ASL students learn from their participation in competitive athletics provides them with transferable skills for the classroom, athletics and life after ASL.
