Description
The Hall School is an independent highly academic boys' preparatory school in Belsize Park. Hampstead, North London, currently teaching boys from age 4 to age 13. The school, across its three buildings, has a roll of over 432 boys, approximately 60 in each year from Years 1-8 and 40 in Reception. Reception to Year 3 (ages 4–7) are based in the Junior School, Years 4 and 5 (ages 8–10) in the Middle School and Years 6 to 8 (ages 11–13) in the Senior School.
Facilities
The After School Clubs programme, designed in consultation with the boys, encourages them to try something new, become inspired or simply take part in an enjoyable activity with their school friends. A variety of clubs are on offer, ranging from football, tennis and rugby to forest school and street dance, some led by class teachers and others by external specialists.
Middle School and Senior School After School Club Programme
A wide range of after school activities are offered, (mostly) run by teaching staff from 4 – 5 pm, from Monday to Thursday evening inclusive. MS and SS After School Sports Clubs include Football, Basketball, Snooker, Table Tennis and Dodgeball, for example. Technology-related clubs include Coding, Student Radio, Design Technology, 3D ICT Game Design (in JavaScript). Other popular clubs include Greek, Gardening, Photography, Science and Debating. Chess Club is a longstanding favourite at The Hall and boys frequently go on to represent the school in national and even international competitions. The school offers an impressive range of residential trips for older kids such as Ski trip to the Alps. Geography tour to Iceland, Music Tour to South Africa and several sports trips to countries (such as Sri Lanka for Cricket and Spain for Football, in the past).

Admission Details
The Hall admits approximately 50 boys into Reception classes only (aged 4+) every September. Assessments for these places are held in the preceding Spring Term. Please note that there is no other major intake into any year group in the school after Reception.
Due to the high current rate of applications to the school (roughly 300 applications for 50 places), parents must register their son as early as possible, before his first birthday, by completing an online registration form. The school does not accepts registrations after the 12 month ‘cut off’ point (from DOB).
Admission to other years (Years 1 to 7); the Occasional Places Register
Very occasionally, places may arise in Years 1 (5+) to 7 (11+) when a family relocates from London or a boy leaves the school for other reasons. At the start of September, the beginning of the school year, boys who were assessed for a 4+ place and were not offered a place in Reception, but were placed on the ‘Waiting List’ following assessment, will be automatically moved to the ‘Occasional Places’ register. The boy’s details will remain on the Occasional Places Register for as long as the family continues to be interested in a place at The Hall.
Other parents who have missed the ‘window’ of registration (the year from birthdate), yet still desire a place for their son in one of the higher year groups at The Hall, should complete a registration form for the Occasional Places Register, for which there is an administration fee of £50.

Please note that the Governors carry out an annual review of fees in March every year, hence there may be a difference in the fee requested by The Hall at the point that your son enters.
Scholarships
The governors of The Hall are committed to supporting ten students at any one point in time through the award of bursary funding. Bursaries may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100 per cent on tuition fees payable, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of applicants. The normal entry point for a bursary candidate will be at Year 4 although entry at Year 5 may also be possible.
During an Assessment Day, the applicants are required to sit several tests, in order to gauge their academic potential. Once a candidate’s academic potential has been ascertained, bursary awards are subject to repeat testing of parental means each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on family circumstances. AThe scale of awards is reviewed and revised annually by the Finance Director to reflect any changes in fee costs and is approved by the governors.
Requests for financial support usually fall into two categories:
New applicants to the school where a place has been offered but parents/guardians are unable to fund the tuition fees
Existing pupils where a change in parents'/guardians' circumstances has resulted in difficulty in meeting tuition fees and may result in the child being withdrawn part way through a stage of education
