The Queen Elizabeth's High School, Gainsborough is leading State Secondary school in Gainsborough. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Mixed
Queen Elizabeth's High School is a mixed grammar school in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England. The school, established in 1983, but with a timeline to 1589, is an amalgamation of the previous Gainsborough High School and Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School. In 1589 Queen Elizabeth I granted a charter to Sir Robert Somerscale to establish Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School for boys, with the express purpose of providing an education in the classics and divinity for the sons of the emerging middle class in the town. In 1828, the Chartist poet Thomas Cooper sought to set up a rival grammar school, but failed, and saw his school absorbed by Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School.
Curriculum
The Curriculum ensures that students leave school with excellent results across a broad range of academic qualifications. They are also intellectually curious, interested and interesting young people who have the skills, values and attitudes that should enable them to go on to lead successful lives outside school. This breadth is planned in a number of ways, both in the classroom during timetabled lessons and outside the classroom. In timetabled lessons all students study a wide range of Arts, Language, Humanity and Science subjects alongside English and Maths. Students are expected to continue with Science, a Humanity and a Language to GCSE and most students will also take at least one creative subject alongside these.
Sixth Form
The staff and Governors of QEHS would like to congratulate all of our students who have worked so incredibly hard over the past two years in order to gain such excellent grades in their A Levels this year.
Music
Music is vibrant at QEHS, with the focus being on creating music of a high standard which involves as many students as possible. The ensembles we currently run are: Orchestra, Concert Band, Swing Band, Junior Band, Choir, Chamber Choir, Flute Choir,Cinematic Percussion Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble plus a range of smaller ensembles run by staff and students. New starters join Junior Band after a term of lessons. Many students play more than one instrument in school, and there are many students who have private lessons outside school and take part in school ensembles.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Children who are already in secondary education and would like to apply for a place at QEHS should also take an entrance test, if they have not done so already. These are Advanced Entry Tests, age appropriate ability tests, and are sat here at QEHS.
