At The Wenlock School they support boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 18 years of age who have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism. 

The Wenlock School offers an outstanding and therapeutic educational approach with a staff team dedicated and determined to support every individual. Custom built school has been designed with specialised facilities, creating a unique environment, which will help learners re-engage with their education supported by a personalised and purposeful curriculum. They will also embrace a raft of initiatives with personalised targets to ensure every child can make excellent progress, appropriate to their specific needs.

Facilities

The Wenlock School is set in a spacious, purpose built site with designated spaces for the Lower and Upper School. Within the grounds they have indoor and outdoor sports areas, purpose built vocational training facilities, sensory and therapeutic spaces, a suite of specialised learning areas and spacious classrooms. Throughout the school, there are also a number of central community spaces designed to support our pupils and foster social time with others.

The Wenlock School sits alongside the Wrens Nest Nature Reserve, offering a 100 acre site in which the children are able to access to support outdoor learning opportunities and an exciting Forest School curriculum.

Things to note

The curriculum is engaging, practical with a broad offer that includes the National Curriculum, Forest Schools, Options and Enrichment throughout each Key Stage. At Key Stage 4, they start to offer a range of accredited outcomes that include GCSE’s, BTEC and Functional Skills qualifications. This curriculum pathway equips individuals for their future, securing outcomes and qualifications to enable future success and achievement. At The Wenlock School, the curriculum offer is flexible, personalised and engaging providing both choice and challenge, focused on developing emotional literacy and core subject knowledge.

Admission Details

Admissions Criteria:

  • Pupils will be aged between 7 and 18 years.
  • All pupils will have an Education, Health and Care Plan.
  • The EHCP will specify that the pupil exhibits social, emotional and mental health needs and/or have a diagnosis of autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism.
  • Pupils will normally have been assessed as being within the low average to above average ability range.
  • Pupils may have learning difficulties and/or low attainment that are associated with their SEMH/ASC needs.
  • Pupils may have specific learning difficulties associated with ASD, a range of complex learning and communication needs and additional needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
  • Pupils may be admitted on the basis of their need for therapeutic support. (See section on therapeutic support.)

Admissions Process: All pupils admitted to The Wenlock School will have been initially referred by their Local Authority (LA). If, after reviewing the information provided, the school believes that the pupil meets the admission criteria, arrangements will be made with the LA for the parents/carers and pupil to visit the school. The visit will include a tour of the school, introduction to key staff and a meeting at which the school policies and curriculum are discussed. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. If, following these visits, all parties are agreed that the pupil’s needs can be met at the school and that the pupil and parent/carers are committed to the placement, arrangements will be made for admission.
