Urmston Grammar is an outstanding school; we have a reputation as a forward thinking dynamic learning community and a leader in education. We have received national recognition for our work as a Science and Language college and in September 2010 we became a new academy. We are using our status to ensure that our students continue to receive a high quality education. They celebrate the pursuit of excellence and encourage each individual to achieve their personal best. Our school building has retained much of the original structure that works well to serve our needs, however newer areas incorporate elements of modern design. CURRICULUM
The curriculum is organised around the Key Stages of Learning:
Key Stage 3, our Lower School: Years 7, 8 & 9. Most subjects are based on the National Curriculum.
Key Stage 4, our Upper School: Years 10 & 11. Students are studying for GCSE qualifications.
Key Stage 5, our Sixth Form: Years 12 & 13. Students are studying for Advanced level GCE qualifications. Students also have the opportunity for enrichment through the EPQ, Independent Learning Modules, short courses in a range of different subject areas, work experience and voluntary work.
SIXTH FORM
Urmston Grammar Sixth Form is a diverse and vibrant community. In a typical year around 150 students enrol with us to study their A levels. Many students choose to remain at Urmston Grammar having joined in Year 7, but we also welcome around 50 students to join us in Year 12 as newcomers from a range of schools across Greater Manchester. The size of our sixth form allows us to offer a wide range of A level courses and enrichment opportunities whilst still retaining a smaller community feel. Our sixth form team get to know every student individually as they progress through Year 12 and 13 and this allows us to provide very tailored support. Urmston Grammar Sixth Formers are proud to be part of the wider school community; we expect our students to work hard, contribute to the life of the school and be effective role models for younger pupils. In return, we provide high quality teaching, a place where you can learn with like-minded students who want to succeed, excellent facilities and a wide range of opportunities to enhance your personal portfolio.

EXTRA CURRICULAR
At Urmston Grammar we strive for academic excellence, however it is important that all students remember that they are more than the sum of their grades. We encourage all students to live our school values of Pride, Participation and Empathy. Getting involved in the wide variety of extra-curricular activities on offer enables each individual to develop important skills such as team work, communication and leadership. We encourage each student to become active participators and maximise on all opportunities available. Our extra-curricular programme plays a huge part in fostering a sense of community between forms, year groups, houses and across the school as a whole. They are also a great way to purse specific interests, make new friends and have fun along the way.
