Ancrum Outdoor Centre in Dundee is the city’s hub for adventure and outdoor activities. For over 40 years it has introduced thousands of people to exciting land, water, snow, and cycling experiences. With expert instructors and a wide choice of activities, it’s perfect for families, schools, groups, and corporate events.

Visitors can try archery, bushcraft, gorge walking, coasteering, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking. The centre also offers a mobile climbing wall, chain walking, and free cycling skills sessions, alongside school holiday bike camps. Whether on land, water, snow, or wheels, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Prices are great value, with archery from £108 for 6 people (extra £18pp) and dry slope skiing at £58. Other activity pricing is available directly from the venue. Birthday packages include themed experiences such as Survival Camp (£150 for up to 10), Multi-Activity at Clatto (£190 for up to 10), Dry Slope Ski + Sledge (£175 for up to 8), Junior Sledging (£8.50pp), Archery (£18pp), and Tyrolean (£18pp).

On Land

  • Archery: Learn to pick up a bow and arrow correctly, draw the string, aim and shoot! Our qualified coaches will bring out the archer’s spirit within you and you’ll be hitting the sweet spot in no time. Don’t forget, this is targets only, no hunting here!
  • Bushcraft: Step into the wild and discover essential survival skills with our exciting Bushcraft Course at our site at Clatto Barns Estate. Led by our experienced instructor, you’ll learn how to safely build a campfire, construct a sturdy den, and master a range of practical bushcraft techniques. 
  • Chain Walking: Looking for a thrilling outdoor challenge with a difference? Join us for Chain Walking, an exhilarating adventure along the stunning Fife coastal path at Elie. Delivered by our highly trained team from Ancrum Outdoor Centre, this unique activity invites you to scramble, climb, and traverse dramatic cliff edges using bolted chains and natural rock footholds.
  • Mobile Climbing Wall: Hire our Highline Adventure mobile climbing wall and provide an excellent climbing facility for all users. Have lots of fun, try climbing for the first time or perfect your climbing skills and techniques  on the world's most versatile and enjoyable mobile climbing wall!

On Water

  • Canoeing: This is the perfect adventure for anyone. Canadian canoeing with Ancrum Outdoor Centre is a fun and really safe way to get out on our beautiful lochs and rivers to explore and spot wildlife all in the pleasant company of our highly experienced and qualified guides who shall take you on a journey and leave you with fantastic memories.
  • Coasteering: Ocean swimming, rock hopping, small cliff jumps, scrambling over boulders and exploring a coastline without a boat or craft all in one journeying activity then coasteering is the answer. A popular venue used by Ancrum Outdoor Centre for this high energy activity is the nearby famous Arbroath cliffs. 
  • Gorge Walking: Gorge walking is a high octane and real buzz activity and one of Ancrum Outdoor Centre's most popular choices. Gorge walking involves going on a journey through a section of mountain stream where you encounter waterfalls, pools, chutes, rocky steps, holes, slides and often jumps and floating in rapids. 
  • Kayaking: Ancrum offer kayaking in nearby reservoirs, lochs and rivers. Kayaking is a progressive sport where participants often start off in flat waters in our local reservoir and move on to whitewater, sea kayaking, competition or surf kayaking.

On Snow

  • Alpine Skiing: Our alpine skiing courses cater for people at all levels of ability and experience. We aim to promote this fantastic sport and give you a first class experience whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced. Our instructors are all BASI / Snowsport Scotland qualified coaches who will help you reach your full potential in this fantastic sport.
  • Alpine Snowboarding: Our alpine Snowboarding courses cater for beginners to early intermediate level. We aim to promote this fantastic sport and give you a first class experience.  Our instructors are  BASI / Snowsport Scotland qualified coaches who will help you reach your full potential in this fantastic sport.
  • Dry Slope Skiing: Ancrum Outdoor Centre has Dundee's only dry ski slope. This is an excellent facility for beginners to snowsport of skiing. Getting to grips with the basics. You will learn how to clip in, slide around on the flat, side-step, straight run and get to grips with the snowplough. 
  • Ski Touring: Don a set of skins on your skis and hit the peaks. Visit areas where no one else can access in this fantastic sport and ski virginal snow as a reward for your efforts.  Our ski guides will lead you and coach you in navigation, ski techniques and avalanche awareness.

On Yer Bike

  • Active Travel: Active travel simply means making journeys by physically active means - like walking, scooting or cycling. Good infrastructure for walking and cycling is important, but people also need encouragement, support and guidance to change their behaviours and switch their journeys to either walking or cycling.
  • Essential Cycle Skill Sessions: Have you recently bought a bike but a bit uncertain about your ability to get started? Have you been thinking about learning to ride a bike? Or simply need a quick refresh to confidently set off on the road? Active Travel Dundee is currently launching a free Cycling Scotland programme to get more adults cycling.
  • Mountain Biking Courses: Mountain Biking has steadily grown to be one of the most popular outdoor activities in the UK. Why not book on to one of our mountain biking courses and join in on all the fun? Our expert instructors shall discuss your expectations on the day and get a feel for your ability and then tailor make a session for you in one of the many spectacular venues we use.
  • School Holiday Bike Camps: Schools are out, the sun is shining lets get on our bikes! Ancrum's Active Travel Team are delighted to offer a completely FREE cycle adventure ride within Dundee's green circular cycle route.
