Belfast Zoo is one of Northern Ireland’s top attractions, located on the scenic slopes of Cavehill and home to over 100 fascinating species. Spread across 55 acres, it’s a perfect outdoor day out for all ages, from toddlers to seniors. The zoo focuses on conservation and education while offering fun for the whole family.

Guests can explore rare and endangered animals, enjoy animal feeding times, and let kids have fun at the large themed play park. The zoo also offers animal adoption programs, seasonal events like “Hall-zoo-een” and “Love Your Zoo,” and an exciting summer Explorers’ Club for kids.

Ticket prices start at £14.50 for adults and £7.25 for children online, with a family day ticket available at £42.50. Gate prices are slightly higher.

With picnic spots, a zoo café, free parking, and even EV charging points, the zoo is well-equipped for a full-day visit. It’s a great mix of wildlife adventure and fun activities, making it a must-visit spot for families and nature lovers alike.

  • Animal species: They are home to more than 100 different species, across a beautiful 55-acre setting on Cavehill, most of which are endangered or extinct in the wild .
  • Daily feeding: You can watch animal feeding times at Belfast Zoo. (Feeding times may change with no prior notice)
  • Play park: This exciting large play park allows visitors to cross crocodile creek, tunnel through meerkat mound or slither to snake island amongst many other fun activities.
  • Animal adoption: Animal adoption is the perfect gift for animal lovers. From the tiny pygmy marmoset to the majestic Barbary lion, there's more than 100 species to choose from. 
  • Explorers' Club: Explorers' Club is a week-long summer programme for children aged seven to 11. Combining classroom learning, hands-on activities and behind-the-scenes access in the zoo, this is a zooper way for kids to learn about conservation and wildlife in a fun and interactive setting. Facilities

  • Food & Drinks: They offer a selection of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, with sit-in dining available. Debit and credit card facilities are available. 
  • Confectionery vending: Cold drinks and snacks are available throughout the zoo from vending machines
  • Parking: Free car parking onsite: over 300 spaces in the upper car park, including accessible bays, and 80 spaces in the lower car park.
  • Picnic areas: There are picnic tables throughout the zoo, including a large picnic area at the top of the zoo, giving visitors the perfect setting to enjoy takeaway food from the zoo’s cafés. 
  • EV Charging points: They have an electric vehicle charge point close to the Visitor Centre entrance.
  • Zoovenir shop: You’ll find a wide variety of animal-themed gifts and souvenirs for you, friends and family to suit all budgets. 
  • Baby changing & Breastfeeding: Baby changing facilities are located in the Zoo Café and in all accessible toilets. Breastfeeding is acceptable in all areas of the zoo that are open to the public.
  • Wi-Fi: Free Belfast Wi-Fi is available in the Visitor Centre.

  • By Public transport: There are lots of bus routes to Belfast Zoo with a stop on the Antrim Road. Metro services 1A, 1C, 1D, 1E, 1F, 1G, 1J, 1K, 2A and 2B (for Antrim Road or Bellevue) depart from Donegall Place in Belfast city centre and stop on the Antrim Road opposite the zoo entrance.
  • By Car: Belfast Zoo is well connected to the motorway and roads network and you will see Belfast Zoo signposted on your route. For satellite navigation you should use postcode BT36 7PN. Free car parking onsite
  • By Train: The nearest train station is Mossley West. It is approximately three miles from the zoo. You can order a taxi to the zoo from this station or take the Metro 1D bus. 
  • By Foot or bike: The zoo is located on the side of Cave Hill, at the top of Antrim Road, approximately seven miles from Belfast. Walking from the city centre takes at least 90 minutes. Cycling takes around 30 minutes.
